I have asked several questions in the forum during my planning stages and want to document the project here on GJB. I must say that all the post and pictures of other projects have helped me discover what I need and most importantly what I want. My first pic, an elevation shot of what the project is suppose to look like upon completion.

Real pics will follow as progress is made.

When I started I thought I would just rough it in for living quarters. As time progresses I think I will just go ahead and finish it and use it as a guest quarters or an in law hang out. Hope I do the picture justice. This project going to take a while for sure.

That's the exact garage I want to build! Are the steps that go upstairs right infront of the man door?

Personally I would add the light to the right of the overhead door closest to the man door.

Maybe delete the light that would be below it to the left of the man door, and only have the one on the right.

Yes but I left enough room to get up the stairs with furniture and appliances. The first three steps will be open then there will be a wall on both sides of the stairs. This helps keep the costs down and somewhat hides the stairs as well.

Do you intend to do anything for natural light on the lower portion of your garage? The upstairs looks like it will be well lit during the day, and my concern were it my garage is that I would walk downstairs and it would feel like a cave compared to the upstairs.

Great question. I have put two windows on the back wall and one just in front of the stairs on the side wall. My entry door will have glass on the top as well. I thinking this will provide enough natural light to avoid the cave look.

I browsed the web and found the "look" I was wanting and then drew the plans up myself using a design program.

Progress is slow due to the weather and as you can see from the pics I'm building on a pretty big grade. Step Footings are being formed and poured.

Stem Walls are being formed. Hope to pour before Christmas if we can keep the snow away.

Hope your planning on putting a large deck on the backside to enjoy the creek.:beer:

Thinking about a deck but have one on the house so probably will pass. The water in the back is a private pond or tank as some of you might call it. It's about 2 acres in size.

Time for some updates. Progress has been S L O W.... Due to the terrible winter thus far. We just missed getting the slab in before the cold snap hit and now another storm on its way today. Hope to get it poured soon so we can make some progress with lumber.

Here are the latest pics.

We had a break in the weather and was able to pour the slab today. Looks like another round of cold due in later in the week. Glad we were able to get the pour in.

I am going to put a portable scissor lift in. Nothing heavy duty. So the pex should be safe. Pour was 6 inches thick.

Nice 71 GS. Love the N25 exhaust, don't see to many with that option.

Nice to see another Buick fan on the board. Here is a shot of my 73 at the track this past Sept.

Time for updates. Between business travel and trying to oversee this project I'm getting behind on my posts. Here is a pic of the slab after the pour was completed.

Yesterday we set the trusses. I have to admit never saw a tree bucket truck used for this but it worked great.

Great looking garage - I'm still contemplating on what I want to build as far as stick vs. pole.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you think this is running you per sq/ft?

Thanks

Looks like work is progressing. Seems to take forever when it's yours. I really like the design of your building, almost built one just like it but wound up going with a pole shed with an apartment across one end instead. Will try to post some pictures of it as well as the 1950s gas station across the front of the property.......

I'm actually pleased with the progress considering the weather that we have had this winter. It's always nice when you can see the changes every day but I know once its in the dry, things will slow down again.
