Max,
nice floor, well done.

question (ok 2 questions) How many lbs of flakes did you use?

You mentioned a squeegee, and I see this mentioned in other epoxy floor threads, what do you use the squeegee for? Is it getting rid of the water after the etch? Or is it used during the epoxy application phase?
Thanks,
tom

Hey Max Thrust,

How are the expansion joints holding up?

So far so good...they look the same today as the day i finished the floor.

10 lbs. of flakes...and the squeegee is to spread the epoxy around after you mix and pour it on the floor. I would recommend using the squeegee as much as possible, spread the epoxy to cover your entire section fairly evenly then backroll, it's really hard to move the epoxy around with the roller. Learned that after the first section.

Hey Max -

I'm curious to know the width of the cement lip leading from the front-most wall of your garage. I imagine these lips are a safety threshold and see them in a lot of garages - mine is about 30" from the wall. I'm now just in the info gathering phase of redoing my garage and am looking for comparisons on how to best deal with it. FWIW - I don't think too many people would have thought your job job on the floor wasn't done by a pro - well done.

Without measuring, I would say that mine is about 30" wide as well, no idea why it is there either.

The idea is to prevent gas fumes from migrating into living space. These fumes are heavier than air so they settle at the lowest point.

Floor looks great. Did you use Smoke Blue as your base color?

It's Epoxy-Coat's taupe color. Kinda a "creamy" gray. The chips do alot to change how the eye perceives the overall color and if you're looking for a blueish hue this base coat may be good along with some different color blues in the chips you choose. My best advise, get some samples from Epoxy-Coat and experiment before you decide. Maybe a few base coat samples and lay some chip samples on those...just my opinion though...good luck!

Has anyone had experience with Epoxy in MN with heated garage floors? My floor is 8 years old and has many small pits where the snow/salt has melted from the cars. I am going to grind the floor and do the prep but concerned that the epoxy won't hold and just a waste of good money.

Gorgous floor and excellent write-up. I am on Higley and Riggs in Gilbert so we are pretty close to eachother. I am excited that you did not use a primer and achieved perfect results. I plan to fill my expansion joints and haven't read a better write-up on the site. Congrats on your results.

I would like to follow up and see how the joint sealant is holding up? Have you rolled anything heavy across it (loaded tool box, etc) that puts a heavy load in a concentrated area? I'm debating on filling my same joints with the Sikaflex or the Metzger/McGuire MM-80.

Thanks!

2 kits Epoxy-Coat from Lowe's (with 10% off coupon from PO)-------$340.00
1.5 kits Clear Epoxy-Coat from online plus 10 more pounds flakes----$355.00

What do you mean when you write "2 kits Epoxy-Coat"? Do you mean two 1.5 gallon kits?

I'm looking at this product for my garage and since my garage is about your size, I want to know how many gallons of epoxy paint and how many gallons of clear epoxy topcoat you used.

Thank you. And your project, by the way, looks awesome.
