600 sqft garage?

I just purchased a house and I will be limitied to 600sqft. Im not that happy about this but I really wanted to live in a certain area. I will be putting a 79 z28 and a 72 nova in the garage. My goal is to put in a two post lift. I know with this size garage I will have to pull one car out to work on the other and Im okay with that. Im also planning on putting a lean too on one side to park a car outside when needed.

My question is will this work for a small workshop? What are some floor plan ideas that might help with space? Im thinking a 24wx25d will get the job done and still allow me to pull in my crew cab truck if needed. I also have a garage on the house that I will park my truck and the wifes car.

Is 600sqft enough? how many have this size and get crative? I know bigger is better and I wish I could build one much bigger but the area I want to live in just will not let me:(

THANKS
Brandon

Im planning on putting storage above the lean too. So the two story would not really help that much for the added cost.

I'm limited to 600 square, and built 21x 28. Lift on the dormer side, and storage loft on the other.

I garage three cars and yes there's lots of car jockeying in and out to use the lift or have open floor space for large work.

I can't fit a super crew, however. My pickup is only 19' long and just barely fits, tow ball removed.

That extra three feet on the width compared to your plan makes the wall space on both short walls usable for shelving, a narrow bench, and stacks of competition tires, even with cars in both bays. It's tight.

On the rear wall I have some 30" x 60" low "rolling bins' purchased from a box store fixture liquidation sale. They're good storage when stowed, and with a old door put on top, become good bench space for large projects when rolled into the center of the bay.

What can you say other than, "it is what it is".

Good luck with the build!

You learn to manage with what you've got, go high if you can for storage.
FWIW my whole house is only 670 sq foot with a single garage added on the end so it could be worse.

Making sure I understand, maybe I don't
You are going to build a garage and you are limited to a 600sq ft footprint.
You currently have a 2 car garage that you and your wife park in.

The nova and Z28 will be housed in the new structure once built.

Make it a 2 story
With the lift on one side, you could close in above the "none lift area" for storage.

I've got 165 sf. I can't fit the car and the motorcycle in.

Actually the car hasn't even been in it yet, but it technically should fit without bicycles and the motorcycle. Will have to do something about the shopvac though, and probably the welding tanks.

Yep you have it correct. I dont think I will be able to build a two story. Thats why I have the idea to put storage about the lean too

My garage is 30' wide and 19.5' deep. 1 16' door, one 8' door. It works pretty good. With 3 sedans inside there isn't room for working on anything. But with 2 cars inside the 3rd stall makes a nice workshop area. I made a wall-mounted fold up workbench so I can put a car in the 3rd stall when necessary.

The only issue with the dimensions is the depth. A crewcab shortbox tacoma fits well, but anything bigger and you wouldn't be able to walk by the front to get to the other vehicles. A crewcab shortbox f150 would fit by literally 3 inches with the bumper touching the wall.

Get with an engineer and figure out the floor and put a full basement in it. We do this kind of work quite often.

From what I've researched manufacturers reccomend most clear floor two post hoists are allowed a 12' wide 24' long bay. "Most" modern hoists will fit under a 12'6" ceiling height. So you should be ok with your 24'x25'

My garage is barely more than 600 square feet. It's tight trying to work on a vehicle. Doors don't open all the way. Mostly I just park there. My long wheelbase pickup and motorcycles fill one bay, my Jeep and my car fit nose to tail in the other side with only two inches to spare.

600 sq. ft isn't bad. for two cars I'd go with a 4 post storage lift which requires much less ceiling height. For your cars 10' would probably do it. With this setup, you'd have a great workshop space.

Here's a pic of my 22' x 24' I only had the one car so I used a 9' ceiling space with attic trusses for storage.

and a pic of my current garage. I'm putting in a Bendpak 4 poster this weekend to store my wife's MB SLK above my Superbee. It's 656 sq. ft and will store three cars, two motorcycles and have a decent workshop area.

If you have a work bench all the way down 1 wall then you should have plenty of room. , I am in the finishing stages of a 24x24 1 door 1 entry door build with 10' ceilings, if I was using this for a primary garage it would be too small but I have 24x24 attached that will be for the 2 cars and the Harley...I too will be eventually adding a lean to on the left side for the trailers and mowers and ****...

i have a 19x22 garage.

it takes some moving around and it's a tight space for trying to actually work during cold weather.

wifes saturn vue, my s-10blazer (trail truck), harley all (sorta) "fit".

i have a bench and toolboxes across the back wall, compressor and more toolboxes against another wall.

generator is between the man door and overhead door, snow blower on a shelf above it. opposite wall has lawn and garden tools, my steel barrel, and a wall cabinet with spray can paint.

i leave my riding mower outside year round.
