Here is what the car looks like after a day of play

It's funny how things move around the garage by themselves just so you can't find them until you buy another one then they seem to reappear

Good news for me, the bolt I'm missing I didn't ever get, but that isn't to say I've never lost anything. Get it finished by June 10th and bring it to Louisiana, I'll meet you there for the Hot Rod Power Tour, I'm sure you will find plenty of cool things to see along the way. You'll have a deadline so you will be forced to get it done by then. :)

JB no deadlines for me. I don't do well under pressure any longer. Gave that up when I sold my shops and retired to my garages.

Yesterday I did get the door hinges painted and recieved all the parts to put the windshield back together with new glass. Tomorrow we will start putting the doors and windshield back on the car.

Todays progress went a little slow. We started out trying to install the new windshield with new weatherstrips and chromed side bars only to discover that both of the side bars have broken tabs causing them to be unusable after they have been rechromed so I took the 2 posts off my 59 vette and will drop them off at the chrome shop in the morning.
Next we worked on the 2 doors and managed to get both hung and aligned.

Nice to see it getting some more attention.
From this angle the door lines look straight.
You could always wear glasses and scrap the windshield.

It feels good to have something to share again.
Those doors were worked on a bunch before the final priming so they went back together very well.

She is looking wonderful, Don!

Hi Ned

Thanks for checking in. I think the car is starting to take shape now We will be firing up shortly (I hope)

Sorry BSAschields

I can't help you out I don,t know what happened to my orig motor. It was taken out of the car in 1996 (3 moves ago)

The Vette is unhappy. Move the Ford sign and things will be better!!!

That's funny Capt

The ford sign is now hanging in the party garage. Car feels much better now

The vette is back at the front of the line to be worked on again I just picked up the windshield parts from the Chrome shop this morning

A little more progress on this old vette to report
The car is out of the shop and over to a friends shop to get custom moldings made for the fender tops and spears for the tear drops. He will be making bezels for the exhaust pipes and the shifter. So while the shop is empty it is time to do a little house cleaning and work on a couple quick projects like this old gas cart

I have decided on what to do with the grille on the vette.

Throw the stock one on the shelf and build a custom one. I found the material I want (Wow $$$$) It will look great though.

Here is a sample of what I have in mind

Here is what I have made (it needs to be polished)

Hey Don. Vette is coming along very nice. I wonder if you will experience higher coolant temps with the new grill? It looks like it could restrict the air flow. I remember dad hanging screen material over the grill to catch the bugs on our Dodge wagon when we would make trips to LA and complain about the engine running hot and when we got back he took it in to the shop and old Duke took one look at it and said get rid of the screen. Next time we made a trip without the screen no running hot. Just a thought. Jeff

Nice grill material Don, that should look sharp!

Thanks Robert

When I saw it on the 57 chev I knew that it was what I was looking for.

don

Very nice work again. I like the woven pattern look.
Do you think this will effect the air flow though.

Thanks AK
That was my second thought. My first thought was how great it will make the nose of the vette look.

I,m looking forward to the day I get to drive it again.
I know the guy with the chevy and he hasn't experienced any problems with his car, but if I do I have designed a scoop to fit under the car that will pull air into the engine bay so I hope I have covered all the bases

Thanks guys for checkin in

I wouldn't worry about high temps. LT1s are reverse flow cooling, and only run a 180 stat, stock. You can get a 160 for them if needed.

Sorry I haven't posted any progress on the vette lately.
I sent it to a buddy to remake a few of the moldings for the car. He got real busy working on a couple High dollar show cars and I told him I was in no hurry so it has been on the back burner since june. I went over to look at the car the other day and what has been done looks great (no unblievable) When the car comes back I will hit it pretty hard I want it done

Thanks for checking in guys

Just remember the race is still on to see who completes paint first, Robert on the Chevy or Don's Corvette.

I think Robert and Don should have their own web site just for their builds and tips. A guy could learn more from those two than he could in a lifetime of all other sites combined. Their work is beyond great and they are very congenial men, too.
Thanks to both of you for all you have taught me.

I.m finally back at it again
The car has been at a friends shop getting new moldings made for it.
It's been gone for 4 months waiting for the best molding guy in So Cal to have time to work on it.

I really like the new look. The moldings are made of brass and will be sent to the chrome shop after I make sure that I don't need to work them or the body any more.

So today we started putting the car together for the final time prior to paint.
Making sure everything fits perfectly, and driving the car for several miles to make sure nothing else needs to be done to it.

I'm starting at the rear bumper and working my way forward putting all the chrome bolts on and shimming the body mounts to give up perfect door gaps.

The moldings look great. Car is going to be one sweet ride. But I need to ask what is that very large round item on the other side of it. World's largest E-stop button?

The new trim pieces look great Don. It's tough to wait long periods of time but when you end up with that level of quality it's definitely worth it.

Looking good don. I'm excited to see this car finished.

Do you have a giant gong in your shop? That big disk has me wondering what the heck it is.

I'm excited to have the car back home. I'll stay focused on it the rest of the year and see if I can get her finished.

As for that big target behind the vette.
That is another project. It is the start of a 6' gas sign that I am making.
You can see the project progress on my garage thread.

Don, hope your health insurance is current, damn if time doesn't fly when you get past 55 and you still have the vette on the bucket list!
Gotta have time to enjoy it in good health!
I am thinking of starting to sell off the little stuff since I turned 57 and you're adding to your master collection! WTH?!?!
Either you have a "HUGE" Emperor's grave so you can take it with you or you're immortal! :lol_hitti

My health is still pretty good and i'm really enjoying the ride

Thanks for the visits
