Sorry for the delay in updates on the garage. We have mostly been working on the house so we could move in this winter. Here are a few pictures of the garage.

IMG_8185.jpg

These are the floors in the breezeway connecting the garage one end is slate and the other is reclaimed barn wood.

This is the reclaimed barn wood.

I wanted a large door going into the garage to make moving things into the house easy. My dad made me a 4ft wide door.

We got the electric rough in done

The county required that the stairs to the 2nd floor be enclosed

Also the short staircase needed a railing. I think its a bit overkill but my Dad seemed to have fun doing it.

The reclaimed barn wood on the floor looks great, also really like the size of that door. Great looking build thanks for the updates

At first I thought you're going to put a shop down and use the house simply as an excuse for a shop (I'm sure the neighbor thought the same and worse). The 2x10's and the sheer perspective of the walls made the building look WAY out of place.

After seeing the finished product, I think the neighbor is feeling like a total ****.

I don't think you will hear from her again, especially if you compliment the house with nice landscaping (which looks like you already are). If anything, the neighbors house is going to detract your homes value now.

This is a super nice build.

So are you living in this house or is it just a shop house now?

Great build. Thanks for the update. I think I could "make do" with a set-up like that :) Looking forward to seeing the inside finished off.

Thanks for all the comments!!!

To answer the question on what the garage will be used for. Once the house is done I hope to make it back to working on my car projects. I have a M725 army ambulance that I have started collecting parts to do a ls 6.0 swap.

More updates Last week we got the drywall hung and this last Monday we hung and plumbed the unit heater.

Oh boy, this thread feels close to home. I'm about to start a similar project, building a 10,000 square foot indoor riding arena with a shop space at one end. Like you, my property is right on the edge of a subdivision, but not in it. Thankfully, it's horse country, and I doubt any of the neighbors will actually complain. Despite being in a subdivision of small five acre lots, most of the neighbors have horses too.

It's been a few years since I checked this thread, the walls were just being framed. It came out looking very nice and I would be happy to have someone like you for a neighbor.

As far as the pic I quoted, I'm surprised where the vertical goes horizontal, you don't have a Tee with a short drop for sediment instead of a 90°.

Wallybob - nice build. Thanks for catching us all up on your progress.

Two questions for you:

How long did the cellulose take to dry before you were able to hang the drywall?

What is the alcove above the entry door for?

Thanks.

I love nu-wool. We have used it in 2 new home builds & it is great stuff, and no waste. I highly recommend it. What size are the garage doors? Your build looks great. I'll bet your neighbor feels like a real **** right now. I'm glad you took the high road and didn't do anything retaliatory towards her like some people suggested.

Gorgeous! I'm sure the neighbor is feeling guilty for making such a big deal over this after seeing the end result. Please keep us updated on any work!
