69 Camaro custom aluminum console

Just build this console recently. Custom aluminum console for a pro touring Camaro with an lt-4 and 8 speed automatic. A cardboard pattern was created and fit with the shifter, seats, and cup holders. This allowed me to check all clearances and start cutting parts for the aluminum. I radiused the edges of the aluminum in reciprocating type hammer, tig welded and metal finished the radius.

That is a beautiful console. I have been trying to make a console for my 1937 Wild Rod 3-window for almost three years now. I am doing simular construction but using thin plywood. Finally getting closer to getting something completed. It is a lot of trial fit and cut and trial fit again. Not sur if I will do metal or wood for the final material. I plan on covering it with vinyl material.

I chose aluminum because i could make compound shapes with my english wheel. Plywood or MDF is somewhat limiting because it can only be made into flat planes. I hope your console turns out well!

nice work but I would have made larger cupholders
and provided some inserts if smaller cups were needed.
Odd how we"ve changed our priorities as back in 69 nothing had cupholders.
I also hope youre going to include a glove compartment/armrest,as I find those also
invaluable
