6BT Engine Trolley / Display Stand.

I started on this little project back in March or April and as it has been so wet I have left it sitting on the trailer until this week.

If you have followed this topic >
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10871&showall=1 you will know I have an expired engine that is just to good to throw away so I made this stand for it.

Sadly my choice of wheels was to small to carry the weight and as it has been sitting all this time waiting for me to get back to it I have found my choice of wheels was not good as they have flat spots. This week I have pulled the 6BT Cummins out and will start over using the same frame and the bigger wheels.

This time I will use these, Pump up on the back and Solid rubber for the steer.
Will post more as I progress.

So cold here today I had to have the wood heater going to finish the paint.

I have it painted and back together tonight and it can sit in front of the wood heater to cure. Took all day just to get this far. Tomorrow weather permiting I will use the Forklift to put the 6BT back into the frame.

Pardon me for a silly question. If the engine is no good, why are you building a stand for it ? we call that a 1000 pound paper weight !

:lol_hitti Would cost me more to scrap it here :(

If i set that thing in the alley, it would be gone before i could hit the back door. I have scrap guys that drive by on a daily basis, they have learned to check me out on a regular basis.
What's the deal with recycling scrap in Australia, why would it cost you. Me no understandy, comprenda

Ya, scrap is worth a few bucks here too. I live 5 mins from a recycler, so I can just drive over, weigh-in, unload, weigh-out and get paid. Got 2 flathead blocks to go to tomorrow!

By the time I load it up and take to the scrappy I would not even cover expenses. Anyway it is a talking point for me seeing as it is an unusal motor choice for my Freighter F4 being Diesel and for a Rod.

E-Tek, Like me that motor of yours is to good to scrap and I await to see what you do with yours and how you finish it off.

Finaly have some photos to show you.

Still have to get it off the trailer so a better photo will happen when that is done.

This Engine has a lot of parts on it 24volt that are new as swapped from the 2008 6BT now in the Freighter.

Taken me sometime to finish this one. I gave it a degrease today then a friend helped me lift it off the trailer with his crane truck.

Still a few little jobs to tidy it up and it rolls very well on the bigger wheels. I just have to remember to keep air in two of them.

GREAT job on it!! HAdn't seen this 'til you posted it in my engine stand thread (thanks). Looks great - and why not having it looking cool in the corner, vs. looking like more **** in the pile!
I didn't save any of the **** blocks, but I'm ready to rebuild the "new" 46 block with all my original 46 parts. I'll then likely leave it "on display" in case the '56 that replaced it pukes!

Thanks E-Tek. It has been a big talking point in my workshop as many wonder what this Cummins is going into until I explain what happened to this one. Sure is good for starting a few conversations given the motor on the stand is now set up with 24 volt Starter and Alternator from the engine that replaced it I had no use for them so they may as well be on the display engine. Bell housing from the new engine went onto the back of this one as well.
