I'm replacing my subpanel in the garage and it is fed with 6ga copper and is powered by a 50 amp breaker in the house panel. From what I've been told 6ga is usually on a 60amp circuit, should I replace to 50a for a 60a breaker after I replace the panel?

NEC will allow 60Amp, but save your money unless you want a welder in your Garage. Really, it is dependant on your load in the garage not based on the wire size.
If your home has 100Amp service, again don't bother with the 60Amp Breaker.

they left a little wiggle room basicially. you could upsize the breaker but it is not necessary. i will be running the same size circut, but may up size to 75-80 amps. just gotta have the house panel replaced first, not enough slots and some weird wiring in the house.
