I'm looking for a new set to replace some cman raised panel. sizes ranging from 10mm - 19mm usa made in standard length. all I can really find is SK, and proto with the exception of truck brands that break the budget is there anything I'm overlooking?

No other USA made wrench comes to mind. Not a lot of people buy 6pt anymore and I can tell you they are harder to run across new and used than a 12pt set.

Just my opinion, but if you really use 6pt that often, and you already have a Craftsman set, just keep using those until you can afford a Snap-on set. Nothing beats a Snap-on wrench IMO.

I'll agree the SO is the best I have an awesome 6pt SAE set at work, but the cost is just too prohibitive I wouldn't even have those if I had to pay for them.
I already got rid of the cman set along with most of my other cman stuff so I must replace them. I'll most likely get the SK for $110 at tooltopia unless I find a better deal. the proto is $140, satin finish, and I never seen one in person where with the SK they are full polish, and am very familiar with them so I already know exactly what I'll be getting

Not made in the USA but my GearWrench catalog had a pretty good selection of 6 point metric wrenches.

Did the C-man wrenches fail to perform?

Armstrong makes 6 point wrenches from 1/4" to 1" and 6mm to 19mm. 1/4", 5/16", and 3/8" are singles though. The set numbers are:
25-626 - 7/16" - 1"
52-627 - 6mm - 19mm

Individual numbers are:
1/4" - 25-308
5/16" - 25-310
3/8" - 25-312

no but craftsman is in general, so I'm cashing in my stock in them

Have you broke any Cman 6 points? if you can still find USA made ones on the shelf they will serve you well.

IMO snap on whenches are nice, but not the best, and nowhere near worth the money.

Wright makes some indesructable wrenches.

SK's chrome is second to none. I do like their product, but my RP 6 pointers were $35 for 7-19mm and another $23 for 1/4"-7/8". Really can't beat the price and functionality of the Craftsman product. I doubt I will *ever* break one so warranty really doesn't mean a ton to be. I use them exclusively to back up impacts.

I never got the concept of selling Craftsman just because the are going to imports now. Just use 'em is what I say. .

they are about at my price limit, but I do have a sears card burning a hole in my pocket. I sure would like to handle a few before I spend $180+

no, but when I got the set I had to warranty the 10mm because the open end was too small to fit on a normal 10mm hex

to afford SO I would have to be making money from their use

does wright sell a 6pt metric set?

I'm just bummed on them they look, and feel generic and were getting quite worn I just felt it was time to upgrade. I'm still mostly leaning toward SK, but I just wanted to be sure there wasn't something out there I was missing

I like Armstrong tools but the wrenches i have used have had a very thin handle which i find uncomfortable against my hand.

Wait...you're going to use a Sears card to finance buying Armstrong tools because you don't like Craftsman going off shore?

The only six point wrenches made by Wright are 4mm and 4.5mm midget wrenches. And I really like Armstrong handles. They're not as thick as Wright or Williams, but thicker than Snap-On and Craftsman and still have a soft, squared edge to them.

I really, really like my Maxx beams, but they only go up to 3/4" and 19mm. So I supplemented with the big Craftsman Crossforces.

I'm going the opposite way, the USA made Craftsman 6pt wrenches are an outstanding value and fully usable for my needs. Sure I would like the Snap On or SK Superkrome but the price/performance difference is negligible.

As far as my beam thickness comment about Armstrong, I have only used a few wrenches.

I only have used 2 Armstrong full polished wrenches. One is a 28mm and the other is 1 1/8. Both of these are much thinner then SO or craftsman pro. Have one 36mm textured wrench???, looks like craftsman rp texture, that has a very nice thick beam.
I would like to check out some Armstrongs in the 3/8-1" range.

Napa had some in thier catalog I think, they would be same overall quality as the C-man but they're not a raised panel type. They may have been in inch only, not sure.

Williams may have some, too.

Otherwise, I have a set of 12pt S-K's long combos. They are nice wrenches.

Just an FYI: I purchased the Gearwrench 6-point 28pc set and was super disappointed when they arrived. They are not long pattern like the Gearwrench catalog claims. The 15mm was a full 2" shorter then the 12pt Gearwrench combos. I sent them back because they where about the same length as craftsman wrenches.

Just keep an eye out on ebay for a nice used truck brand. It might take some time, but they do show up. Matco, Snap-on and Cornwell all make 6pts. I just picked up a super nice lightly used Cornwell set, a full polished CWS series which is a good bit longer than the Craftsman, and they have the V cut open end. All I have to do is chase down the missing 14mm. If you have to buy new, the SK long pattern would probably be your best bet in your price range. The Armstrongs are not the long length. They are similar to the Craftsman length, so I would pass on those.

I just took a look on ebay and here is a nice Snap-on set you can keep an eye on.

Here is a Matco set. The price seems way to high but it wouldn't hurt to make an offer.

Here is a new Cornwell set that ended without being sold. Maybe you can contact the seller to see if its still available.

I got my Snap-on 7 piece set on eBay for $115. They were brand new. The 7 piece set was good enough for me as I don't use 6pt that often. It always seems to be a 10 or 13mm that I end up using on a rusty bolt/nut. Depends on your need though.

I decided to keep my eye open for that set, and I might even pay full price if I can't find them discounted soon enough. as much as I like to have all sizes I really only need 10, 12, 13, 14, and 17

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on the SO set the guy with the matco set is smoking crack, and I wish I would have had a chance at the cornwell set, but it seems I missed that boat
