7' ceiling height

I purchased a Dr. Heater DR966 to heat my workshop space. The space is in our barn, and has 7' high ceilings. The manual for the heater says a minimum of 8' from floor to heater needs to be kept, but I am wondering how hard and fast this is. What is the major safety concern? And if it's not advisable, are there any alternatives out there for low ceilings?

That really didn't make sense to me so I found the manual and the 8' from the floor is correct. It only needs 12" clearance to any adjacent vertical wall. The only thing I can think of is so people don't run their face into it, it certainly isn't a combustion issue.

My garage is 7'4" . Just put it in the corner facing out. Been 5 years with no issues and passed inspection

From what I understand, those minimum height numbers are more about avoiding accidents (hitting your head on it, hitting it with a piece of equipment, etc) than they are about heater performance.
