The picture is the only one I had prior to putting poles in lined up.

So I put all the poles in the holes and a few holes are not centered to my string lines. I think out of 20 holes there are about 6 that the poles are not centered in the middle. They are pushed to one side.

Was this an issue with any inspectors that you worked with?

Thanks

When I build mine, just south of you, all they were worried about was the depth. I had a couple of really ugly holes that were in a spot that we had removed a tree root from. I would not expect any problem. The inspector should have inspected the holes before setting poles, did he?

I have not called for my final inspection on the poles prior to filling them yet. I had the holes inspected before the poles went in though.

If they inspected and the holes were the right depth your good. I just had a pole building built up here in WA and they poured concrete in the bottom to make a flat surface to be able to position the poles to the string easier, they also would springle some sand on top of the concrete that the pole sat on so they could walk them by hand. these were big 6x12 true dimension poles that were about 26ft long. They filled sand around mine and then compacted. Fill em in!

I'm in Marion County Or. and the only inspections related to post holes was the original hole depth and the re-bar hair pins in the posts after they were set. I see you're in Clackamas County, could be different there.

I doubt they check for alignment, but they should be aligned.

You are just asking for problems later in the build if things are not straight and square at the start.

As long as there is enough room in the holes for the posts to be aligned and in the proper position, you're good. I had one that somehow ended up way off - I dug out one side about 6", and the inspector didn't bat an eye.

When I did inspections, I looked at the depth and usually a concrete pad in the bottom of the hole, unless an architect or engineer stamped a plan with another system. We did not permit poles set in concrete because the poles shrink and then water sits in the space left, rotting the bottoms of the poles off prematurely. You should be ok unless your inspector is a ****.
