Hello GJ

Been lurking here for a while now, and used it for a lot of inspiration, so its about time i give something back and contribute a bit :)

To introduce myself, i am 27 years old, married and having a little boy at 6 months now. I am educated welder / pipefitter, had my own company for a couple of years and now working with oil and gas offshore, related to drilling :)

Last year we got a house and a garage build, started December 2013 and moved in July 2014. The house is 179 m2 (1926 ft2) and the garage is 75m2 (807 ft2). The house is build with bricks inside and outside, and as a low energy house :)

Well, now to some pics :)

Started out with some quite expensive piece of dirt

Then got the foundation done

Starting with the inner walls

The dinning area

Outer walls

Inside the garage

Almost done, nearly ready to move in

Then laying all the bricks outside.. What a F...ing nightmare, did it myself, and never ever again.. 230 m3 (2475 ft2), building support walls and stairs as well.

Aaaand the finished result

But now to the garage, it is a garage board :D
I havent got that much time out there so far, because i spent so much time with our little boy and have been much away. But once or twice a week i spend a day out there.

So far i have been building my work bench, started to organize my power tools, and bolts, nuts and other small pieces.

Yesterday i made a rack for my air-tools, quite handy, made with a piece of old wood i had, drilled holes that fitted with the quick connector, and mounted it in the cupboard.

Also got the shelves nearly done, just need some painting.

Some more pics for the interested :)

My welding table, with my TIG welder attached to it :)

I have big plans for the garage in the future, actually a complete re-organizing.
First of all, i need the floor done. I think it will end up with tiles, like the one in the house. Next building a big L-shape workbench in the corner where there cupboards are now, made out of tool boxes, like the neat ones there are in here. Move the cupboard with powertools over where the workbench are now, and maybe sell the other one.
Then install a scissor lift in the floor, and properly a lot other things when i get crazy ideas and inspiration :D

Thanks for watching, more will be added as i get time, money and things done :)

Very nice looking home place. At first I thought you might be building in the country but from later photos in looks like you are in some sort of development or planned community. When you say the building site was expensive you should know that good building ground close to good services (schools, shopping, work, etc.) is never cheap.

Will you be doing welding work for customers when you are not offshore? You certainly are well equipped for it.

Thank you!
Its in a planned community yes, but nearly at the country hehe..
Its nearly as far out you can get from the city center, but still in the city, if that makes sense :)
But you are certainly right about the price of the site, its close to school, shopping mall, and different sport activities :)

Here's a photo i took from the chopper when i was going to work

The community to the right was build from 2008-2012, and the green field to the left is just started to be build at the moment :)

I dont really got the time to do welding work at the moment.. I'd like to, but cant find the time.. Maybe when my boy gets older, but in the meantime i just do my own projects, and need to finish my money-pit aka. The garage :)
When i find a good deal, i'll by a MIG welder again, i had a couple when i had my company, but unfortunately i sold them off when i closed my company :( I regret that SO much now :(
I also got a milling machine, and other fab. stuff, but sold i all off because i didn't have any storage space what so ever :)

Looks great!

Love the vaulted ceiling in the garage!

Just a warning from a clumsy fool. Id put some kind of guard around the air tool storage. I had a few stored like that, then tripped and grabbed, and broke off a bunch of air fittings

Thanks gents!

The house turned out pretty great yearh :)

Jb3, thanks for the warning! Think you have a good point there.. Better make something smart when i come back from the northsea and have some time in my garage :)

We Will have a Big party out there soon, so i have to get cleaned up, and all the bits and pieces laying around put in place :)

Regarding to the vaulted ceiling, i Got that done to make hight for a future car lift out there.. Maybe a scissor type, or a one post in the Ground.. But next thing on the list is to buy a MIG welder, get the floor done, and making a new workbench :)

Love your build.

You have a great range of tools. Im missing that in my garage.

The cool thing about building a new house after new building regulations is that the house is well isolated. :) My house have a yearly usage of 40.000kwh of heat. And that number will grow to about 60.000kwh when all the house will be finish. Seen over 30years there will be about 500.000 danish kr. to save. (100.000 usd)
Another cool thing you will get happy about is the IHC.
I have a combined wireless/wired IHC solution, and I love it.

How much sand/stabile gravel did you use when you layed the tiles outside?

Thanks a lot!
Yearh i have a fair bit of tools hehe.. :D
Still need to organize a bit more, but im nearly there, Will upload some pics when i Got time for it :)
Holy ****, Thats a lot of heat! I Think ours is calculated to about 7000 kWh a year..
But in the summertime its so hot and warm in the house you nearly cant live there.. Last summer we had nearly 40 degress celcius inside, and we dont have any Windows South.. :wtf:
We havent lived here for a year, so i cant tell you have Munch heat we are using, but i guess its about 10.000 kWh a year, With 24 degress inside in the Winther time :)

Yearh the IHC is very cool, and its combined wireless and wired aswell..
It gives you a lot of cool features and opportunities to program all the Electrics :)

For the tiles outside there is about 60-70 cm of stabile gravel in the driveway, and 40-50 cm on the terrace.. I kind of fucked up when leveling it out, so there is 0-2 cm of sand, i cant recommend that, its a pain in the **** to flattend out the sand before laying the tiles..
But the tiles still sink :headscrat :(

What a great build, and it only makes it even greater, when it's build on expensive danish dirt!

I love the different color variations in the bricks, as it makes the building come more alive.

What kind of vehicle do you put in the garage? ;-)
