OK, so I've been shopping for T - handle hex drivers. I am curious if anyone knows why the 7mm from all the German brands (maybe European in general) is always 200mm long? At least all that I have come across.

Even if the 8mm is 150mm long or other sizes are available in several different lengths the 7mm is 200 and only available in 200.

Makes me think there is some reason for this.

German tools are generally made to German (DIN) specs. These specs cover a lot more things than you might think, and with tools they tend to cover not only the fit and tolerance of the business end, but also the size and shape of the whole tool.

Note how German wrenches generally conform to specific patterns, and sometimes they will even give tell you the pattern.

From what you say, I suspect the DIN standard (or at least one of them, there are usually options) for a 7mm T handle is 200mm!

Bondhus offer about 3 different lengths, but not a 7mm. PB Swiss offer a 7mm at 230mm. Did you need longer or shorter?
