You can identify an ungrounded conductor with phase tape 8 or larger. 4 or larger for grounded. If I remember correctly. Doesn't make it right but I've never used white 8 or larger wire. Only in some switch hear applications where I'm running multiple (4 or more) sets of 500's do I order colored wire.

You can rephrase any ungrounded conductor color doesn't matter what size it is.
