I'm getting ready to close on my first house at the end of this month. I'm mostly looking forward to setting up my garage as the rest of the house is pretty much "move-in" ready. This being my first garage I, of course, want it to be perfect. My first project is lighting. The garage is approximately 700 square feet. We'll consider it 26' X 26' with 8' ceilings being close enough. It has a finished ceiling, but the floor supports for the rooms above are trusses instead of joists. That makes wiring much easier and I have no problems with wiring up whatever plan we determine best. The main breaker box is easily accessible in the garage and it has plenty of room to add extra circuits if neccessary. The floor is painted dark blue at this time, but I have plans to upgrade to a lighter shade epoxy or tile at a later date. The walls will be white with white 4X8 sheets of slatwall on the upper half. This will be a working garage and I'll need a good spread of light throughout as there will be no one designated work area.

I'm not a big fan of tube flourescents mostly due to the asthetics. I would like to do something a little more sophisticated, but I would love to get some more expert opinions on getting good light spread with a low ceiling.

Thanks in advance and I'll get some pictures up as soon as we close at the end of the month.

Here is my 20x25 with an 8' ceiling...

I used a total of 24 cans....I currently have 23w cfl's in them....I've been playing around with color....I don't really care for the warm white...so as soon as I can find a good deal on 30W day light cfl's...I'll swap them out.

Even with what I have now, plenty of light.....I do a lot of wood working....the only supplimental light I have is at the radial arm saw....and has more to do with my age....

Sounds like the original poster has living space above his garage. Will recess cans provide the necessary fire and fume separation between garage and living space?
