I installed a dehumidifier under my house and while I was insulating/sealing my foundation vents, I noticed 2 of my bedroom 8" flex duct runs got some water in the outer insulation, Got a quote for $500 to swap them out and I understand, labor, tools, time etc... Tradesmen... They quoted me R8 but if my crawlspace now is warmer than before and dehumidified, can I get away with R6 from Lowes, They have the type that is black poly or plastic outside instead of foil type outside like I have currently.
I can buy 2 25' long pieces, mastic and a Zip tie tool and the zip ties for less than $200.00...
What say you, should I attempt the repair myself? should I not skimp on the $300 and let the pros do it???

Do it yourself, just make sure that you don't have any kinked spots or a bunch of excess wadded up, add support if needed. R-8 would be better but it's more important to not have air leaks, I doubt the old stuff is better then R-6 anyway.

Easy project - should be less than $150

Or cut out the wet insulation and re-wrap the flex duct with new insulation for even cheaper - depends on how much is wet/damaged.

Flex pipe does not have a good flow rate. If there was a way you could do half or more of that in solid pipe you would get more air into those spaces.

If not, pull the flex tight and keep it from being bunched up or having a lot of turns. You will probably do a better job then the pros, but it will take you a lot longer.

Only 1 turn at the duct...
