8' T12 Question...

I have two 8' florescent fixtures in the attached garage, each has two T12 bulbs.

Do these style twist in or is the socket spring loaded?

They are 95 watt, but I cannot seem to locate that wattage at Lowe's or HD. Will a 110 watt hurt anything? Not sure what the ballast can handle. Or would I be safer going to 75 watt?

Right now it looks like a haunted house out there...

I removed two 8 ft T12 fixtures with 96watt bulbs and they were bi-pin twist in type. The HO 8 ft T12 has the spring loaded sockets with the single pin ends on the bulbs.

If 95 watt they are 800 ma HO lamps, if you look at the tombstone lampholders there is a plunger on 1 side just push the tube towards that plunger & remove, they will have a recessed double contact base common to 800 ma HO & 1500 ma VHO lamps. They are not interchangeable w/ each other or the 60/75 watt slimline lamps w/ a single pin base.

Edit: A standard 8' HO lamp used to be 110W, & a 8' slimline was 75 watt, the Energy Conservation Act of 1992 changed that, now 95 & 60 watts are standard because of that law, which made the 110W lamp labeled as for cold temperature use.

The big box stores do not have 95 watt bulbs, only 110. As long as the base is the same, will they interchange and work okay?

The previous home owner worked at the airport, the fixtures look commercial/industrial so I am wondering if he brought a few home from there. Wish I could find some more!

110W lamps will be fine, all the 95 watt lamps are energy savers the higher wattage lamps will perform a little better in colder weather, if you want to verify this just remove the cover from the fixture & read the ballast label.
