As a welder/fabber in training, I'll be asking a lot of questions. To reduce forum clutter, I'll just dump all my questions in one thread as they come up.

To start, why is it that the the amperage is the user controlled variable on a welding machine and never the voltage? Is it because 120v/240v is the set voltage coming from the utility lines, or does it have something to do with the weld process itself?

Not true. My MIG machine you set the voltage and wire speed.

In your basic welding you’ve got Constant Current (CC)(stick and TIG) and Constant Voltage (CV)( MIG and Flux core). This is very basic welding. You’ll learn more as you go. Keep working hard and show us some of your work. We love pictures!
