Hi Everyone,

I was first inspired by a member on this forum, so I would like to post up my story to hopefully give back some of that inspiration. This isn't a journal as much as a summary as the building is now nearly finished, but I will post some photos up and tell the story of the process so that if you're planning a build you can hopefully get some useful information from this thread.

The thread that I was inspired by was built by a guy named Jared, who also designed his own building and GC'd the project:

So let's start from the beginning.

The Land:

We purchased some acerage and used this part of the property for the building location. I later found out that there was once a barn here, and they used to build stock cars inside the old barn!

We had some Noway Spruce trees transplanted onto the property line for more privacy. They weren't cheap but in a few years it will be impossible to see the building, so well worth it (although we will lose a beautiful westerly view once the trees grow above 20ft).
