I'm in the market for a new box I have narrowed my choices down to either the KRL 1033:
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=20768&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

or an 84" Epiq:
http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...group_ID=34565&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog

does anyone here have either one of these boxes?

opinions on which you would choose, and why.

I realize the KRL is a little cheaper, and the epiq is an overall bigger box, so not looking for that info. just comparison/experience with either. thank you!

$13,270 for tool storage?

can you get any discount?

does it have to be new?

does it have to be green?

can you do a trade in?

good luck, they both look very nice boxes but a bit out of my price range :)

I guess for me it would be a toss up. I have seen the epiq.....and they are nice, im just not sure i could deal with the craftsman copy drawer latches. I like snap ons lock and roll drawers personally. I cant see anyone being really unhappy with either box, if your able to swing the money. ( i wish i could!)

I'm trading in my 6s Matco double bay with top box and my Cornwell elite cart... Yes I can afford it. Don't want a used box. Either green Orange or white. Already working details out with my dealer. Just wanted your guys' opinion.

And I'm not sure if I'm sold on the new grip latches either.

Dont listen to these guys babble about it being too much money, get what you would want. If it were me, I would get the 1033. I cant stand the grip latch on the epiqs, that alone makes me not want the epiq.

Hey im jealous, im not gonna bash your choice. Knowing the krl boxes were built very well, and i doubt the epiqs are built cheaply. The whole latch thing is the only thing for me. Not that i hate that latch style, but to me snap on boxes are lock and roll! I guess it also depends on your power needs, i understand the epiq boxes have power option, but i have never looked into that as i am a basics tool guy.

The power bank/house/etc. options on the Epiq seem pretty worthwhile to me, plus... the box looks cool as

No personal experience with them though.

I'm presently making a similar decision between a KRL1032 and a 68 inch epiq. The latches really don't bother me on the epiq but I do like the lock and roll on my present KRL. What's tempting me towards the KRL is getting more storage for less $$ in a similar quality box. I do like the power top option on the epiq though. I personally wouldn't be looking for a new box but my dealer is offering me a stellar trade in value on my present box and to get either of the 2 boxes I want locally let alone in a color I can tolerate would be damn near impossible. My dealer is doing up a number on both options for me this week so I should have my mind made up soon.
Good luck with your decision and be sure to post pics of your new box!

Like the others, I prefer the KRL latches compared to the Craftsman Grip Latch style on the Epic boxes. If the power bank is one thing making you lean towards the Epics, add one to the KRL box:

Power Cab

Have I mentioned that Extreme Green is an excellent choice?

I personally would go with the epiq I love mine I've had both and still have both actually sitting next to each other and honestly the epiq is a stronger box I believe, I also prefer the new grip latch they will actually stay latched when you roll your box across the shop I've never had good luck with the lock and roll I always break the latch off, inside the hook mechanism on the grip latch is metal so even if the plastic breaks the metal will hold I've had two do it but the breaking was my fault. On the price they aren't that different by the time you add a top to the krl and get a box that is actually the same size you're really close price wise

im in the exact same position. my dealer has a deal on a green krl1033pjj with a riser so that probably what i will go with. if youre not getting a riser for the krl the power options for the epiq would be nice. either way youre going to get a great box

The power options don't interest me. Would be the epiq I linked, just a box.

My buddy has a krl722 and he breaks one of the latch pieces about every 4 to 6 months. That being said the dealer always warrentys them, as he ahould. Just a minor hassle.

I am pretty stuck on the white. In my opinion it is my fav. And its not avail on the krl so that kind of sways my decision.

I noticed the epiq boxes seem to have higher load ratings as well..

The more I think about it I think I will end up with a white epiq 84. Hopefully I can keep it clean. I am a diesel mechanic so don't have the cleanest of environment ,though our shop stays pretty clean.

That's a pretty big investment. If you don't have to finance it, I would greatly consider a used box. You can save a LOT of money that way.

having had a krl1022 and now a 84" epiq and i have to say, the epiq is better. its the little things, the flush drawers and no sharp edges wont catch cloths or anything else when moving passed the box. the new latches are much better than the sliding latch on the KRL's. i cant tell you how many times i have broken the latches on my KRL, and it always takes a couple weeks before the dealer gets a new one for it. drawers feel more stable and stronger from more bends in the metal. overall if you can afford it or if i had it to do over i would still buy the epiq

I'm with you on being stuck on the White Epiq's, they just look phenomenal to me. I really wish that Snap-On would make some of their Carts and KRL boxes in that white.

I too have an Epiq and you will love the drawer latches. They are years ahead of the old lock n' roll.

I have a black 84" epiq (the triple bank like you show, mine has a powertop) I got new last year. I traded out of a Macsimizer and I love it, and I didn't think I'd like the drawer latch system either, but I grew to like it fast. The drawer layout for me is about perfect- I had concerns about all the shallow drawers but they've helped keep me organized. The box was well worth the money to me.

We had a guy at the shop with a 1023 that was real nice (and the 1023 is what I was pricing before the Epiq was available) and after seeing the drawer layout and size on it I'm glad I went with the Epiq.

Epiq gets my vote. Itll be what i upgrade when the time comes. My dad has one with the powerbank/powerhouse/powertop with a hutch and side locker. Its crazy big and roomy. Also green gets my vote. I love my extreme green box.

I agree with all of the above. The epiq is a stronger box, feels much stiffer than the krl in the drawers and I love the drawer latches.

As far a white getting dirty. I work on equipment (hyster and bobcat dealer) and have the 90th anniversary. One good wipedown at the end of the day and your good to go. I think the only color you won't see dirty fingerprints on would be darker colors. My old red box showed dirt only slightly less than white.

Do the Epic and KRL use the same slides?

Interesting comments here that have used both. Surprised that the Epic feels that much stiffer and stronger than the KRL which is known to be a solid box.

Nathan - What didn't you like about the 6S? Are you going from Matco to Snap-On due to not liking the 6S?

The 6s is a decent box, I haven't had much trouble with it, short of a few lock problems, but it doesn't feel as stout as my buddy's KRL, not even close. and my current Matco Dealer ***** big time, so no way I would give him my business.

I find it odd that the large triple bay 6s is $2500 more than the epiq you posted up, I guess that would make the epiq a better value as well.

Well my Snapon dealer and I have been hashing out the details over the last few weeks. I am fairly certain I am going with the KRL1033 in extreme green, with a butcher block top, and unless I change my mind (again) It will be ordered tuesday! so after a hefty lead time i should have a new box soon!

Don't go with the Epiq, My Snap On guy let me test drive one and he delivered a new one to my house. I transferred all my tools from my KRL1023, while I liked the larger top drawer and the way they came all the way out was nice. My biggest complaint is the shallow drawers are at least 3/16" shallower than the KRL. When you put socket trays in them with sockets they hit the drawer above. Also, while I had them side by side, I really looked them over, I believe that my KRL is higher quality, even in the wheels. My KRL's are just beefier. I also liked the way the wheels "unlock" and swivel too.
The bottom line is in the end, he took the Epiq back.
