Sounds like an amazing deal! That's about 40% off, I would get it. I dont think you can get a better deal than that on a new box.

I have an $8000 snap-on box, I love it, I would NOT do it again! The mark up is absolutely ridiculous!

for 14.5 that is the one with the power bank? correct? I traded in my 76" epiq for 7500.00 (power bank and locking modis hutch) on my new 86" epiq...that list for 14K...and got another 2800 off...my snappy guy sold my trade in the next day for 10k...after he said he would give me 9k for it but then change his story to saying that he could only sell it for 7500.00...but it was the cleanest trade he had ever seen...I guess if your happy with the deal take it. I wanted no break in my drawers..so I ordered the full drawers with the power bank and no stuipd locking hutch for the laptop...the first epiq I bought was the demo unit from Vegas that snap on was test marketing...so I was one of the first guys to get an epiq..and after using the power bank I would never used anything else...

I like the white but you may have trouble selling it in the future if you decide to do so. Red and black are easier, more common colors to move.

Before you buy that Epiq box, do me a favor and open one of the drawers with it being completely empty. Now push down on the center of the drawer bottom with your hand. Does the sheet metal bounce back up like an oil can?

Nope....I had to cut the back out of one of my epiq cabs...1/8" steel...very well built

first i wanted the power bank but then changed my mind to triple bank all drawers, i dont have a lot of cordless at work or enough to justify having that space for power tools. i am set on this tool box and planning to keep it for has long has a make living turning wrenches.

That's the back, what about the drawer bottom that your tools lay on?

not sure since Im not in front of it, but more than sufficient for the less than <250 lbs that I have in my heaviest drawer. I think they are rated for 400+ (although I could be wrong on that). I wouldn't say they are much, if any, thicker than a kra or krl bottom. If I have something heavy enough to worry about something like that, it probably doesnt belong in a tool box drawer anyways.

I hope the build quality on that Epiq is better than my KRL. I gotta keep my heavier tools like hammers in cardboard trays because I'm afraid of dropping a hammer on that thin sheet metal drawer bottom.

i love my power bank. Its a great way to organize air/electric impacts, etc.

i'll compare them in the morning, but I've never noticed anything with the krl really. The epiqs overall are no comparison to the krl's, especially when you get to to the lockers.

With the drawer completely empty, the drawer bottom will be "domed" upwards. When you put enough weight on it, the drawer will flatten out. It only takes the weight of a couple pair of pliers to make it flatten out. Reminds me of a cookie sheet for baking cookies on. And this is with all the drawers, not just one.

here's what i came up with this morning. i only checked 2 drawers on each box, so this isnt 100% accurate im sure, and of course the powdercoating could be the cause of all of the variance.

epiq drawer - 1.35mm
krl drawer - 1.25mm
kra drawer - 1.22mm

i have thought about that over and over but i just dont want to need that extra space and regret it in the long run

it does take up a ton of drawer real estate, but depending on how you typically store your impacts, etc, it may or may not be worth it.

I don't know, white boxes look pretty sharp amongst a world full of red, blue and black boxes.

Is that the sheet metal thickness on the bottom of the drawer?

How were you able to measure that?

I would guess that so bends the drawers so wall and bottom are the same. If not the using a micrometer that measures between 2" and 3" would allow you to clear the height of a 2.25" drawer and measure the bottom drawer thickness.

Right, even with a regular 0-1 mic you can measure the sidewall of the drawer, seeing as how it is one sheet with the sides bent up from a single piece of material......Unless SO has somehow decided to save material / money by sanding / grinding away metal in the area that will be the bottom just to make them seem flimsy in comparison to older boxes....probably save a pound or 2 over the entire box and would only require a bunch of labor and extra machinery / mfr'ing cost to do it:lol_hitti

That's a pretty good deal. I got my 76" Epiq for 5200 plus my trade. Extremely solid, no popping of the drawers or any "cheapness" felt anywhere. You can have 2 guys hang on the top drawer and gently push it closed with 1 finger. Fully loaded it rolls easier then my old KRA (but kinda hard to get it to stop rolling!). Very impressive what snap on managed to do with them. Other then having to come off the cash to buy it, you won't regret it one bit.

You measured the bottom panel with a micrometer?

.....and for the record, it can be done fairly easily, if required -- get a micrometer that will clear the sidewall (like a 2-3" as another suggested) and then use gauge blocks or something similar to fill the extra space. Heck, I bet I could do it with a straight edge and a depth micrometer and be within a couple thousandths of accurate. At least get close enough to match GA standards and decide what the material is.

According to this conversion chart, 1.25mm is closest to 18 gage. That's even thinner than I thought.

Checked on myself today with these discussions in mind. I got just a hair under .060 -- .0598 is 16 GA by my old machinists bible.

edit: and I think you need to go look that chart over again.

I'm thinking 14 gage would probably stop the deflection, but 12 gage would be more in tune to the prices they're charging.

Hmmm.... One whole tenth of a mm

A well placed sneeze from one of the assembly workers
could account for that kind of variance.

No way that's accurate due to the varying powder thicknesses. It's impossible to get the powder the same thickness on three boxes too.
