I just picked up the same bottom cart for $25 last week. Wish they had the top also. Mine is allitle rougher. But gives me something to do to fix it up.

Depends upon how trustworthy all participants are........on a few occasions, I have found KIJIJI deals that are too far away, and have mailed cash to the seller. Never burned yet...trust your instincts!

There still are some honest people out there! Did a deal with CL guy in Nebraska and he sold me all his Rigid pipe threaders and extras where I mailed him the money, and he shipped them. I got everything I could ever need for pipe threading (handle with multiple size dies, pipe vise, reamer, cutting oil, etc).

I did some background checking on his phone number, address, etc. before I mailed away the payment. However, it all felt good so I trusted him. Worked out well for me.

Putting aside getting a toolbox in good condition for that price, I don't get it. What about the Kennedy is that great? Every time I see them either it's old used ones for not much or they're a year old and are $1 less than retail price.

There has to be something I'm missing.

Kennedy boxes are very good quality. To echo some of the other posters, the last thing I need is another toolbox combo, but I couldn't pass that up.

I bought this same Kennedy roll cab used & in great shape on CL about a month ago & it's anything but flimsy. I've looked at current Craftsman & HF models & this Kennedy is far better, so I'm not sure what Kennedy you're referring to.

I'm glad I wasn't alone. Nothing against Kennedy, I just don't get the cult following or see really any justification for the price. Yes they look and feel better than craftsman, but the ones I saw (new at the time) are about on par with the HF 44". but 10x more price.

Maybe newer or older ones were better than what I saw. It was a few years ago.

If they will not hold it they need the money. If they need the money anything could go. I have seen people send money ahead and the person sold it to someone else and said they never got the money. It has happened to 2 different friends of mine years ago. You never know. $85 is a give away. I get $275 for that in my second hand shop. I have sold them for that price.

The one I bought is in really nice shape & I got it for $175. For me anyway, well worth it. Just had to clean it up a little & get new keys made. It was owned by a machine shop & the guy said they had it quite awhile. Fortunately, they took very good care of it. I wasn't specifically looking for a Kennedy, just something nice at a decent price.
Would I pay what they want for a new one? Not likely. Too many nice used boxes on CL....just have to get lucky & grab one when the price is right.

I've been in/around the machining trade for some time, and I've never gotten the fascination with the "brown brick". They just seem like an average quality toolbox. They're better than cheapo homeowner boxes, but not by much. They're not even particularly attractive, and the wrinkle paint is impossible to clean when it gets dirty, which happens really, really fast in a greasy machine shop.

Even stranger, is the sentiment that if you don't have a kennedy, you're not a real machinist... coming from guys who have more money spent in one corner of one drawer than the entire toolbox itself.

I can say though, the red gloss finished Kennedy mechanic's style boxes are actually quite nice.


The only boxes that really impress me are old school Gerstners... now THAT is the box of a true machinist.

Well circumstances prevented me from getting this deal done. My wife came down with some kind of stomach bug Thursday AM and we did not travel to Sanford Thursday PM. I called the guy back this AM and it was sold already (he had lowered the price to $75). Oh well maybe next time.

A savings of $10 was all it took, . Don't worry, man I am sure you'll find something even better shortly.

X2. I think Kennedy boxes have the worst resale value from new compared to any other box out there. Ironically it seems to me that craftsman has one of the highest.

This is just a wrong assumption. OR they don't want to waste their time holding it for someone that won't show, won't pay, etc. while in the mean time they could have sold it to someone else. There are a lot of time wasters on Craigslist.
