Sorry for the delay in updates boys, i've got the week off, been hitting the car hard. Here's the current status.

Working my way to the back of the car.

Added hangers, 304SS of course.

I guess i forgot to take photos of this up in the tunnel. I'm working on the pipes coming out of the mid section. I'll upload more photos later.

Also had to shorten the tip to give me enough room in the back.

The flanges don't fit the pipe the best, so i have to resort to fixturing.

I also took time this week to fix the Vmax. The rear tail horn had broken off the tail end of last year. I parked it since it was almost end of season.

One of the bolts backed out, the extra force and fatigue killed that frame horn. All fixed up now. Putting the TIG skills to good use.

I also had run out of gas and got a new gas supplier, Bakers, who flipped all my TIG tanks and Mig tank. So i have 2 big tanks of argon on hand now. Also my regulator is leaking, i have a new one on the way. Wondered why my tank was going so fast. I can't get the gauge off it to put teflon on it. I'd have to strip it and use a torch i think. Old victor. I have a Harris 355 on the way.

Lots of good work going on there, I am about to install a new muffler section on my daily in SS and would like to know what tip you opted to use?

So much for more post later today. I ran around all yesterday and didn't have time for posting. Here's where we are now:

Picked up this on sale yesterday20230414_115449_HDR.jpg

I was pretty much out of room in my other boxes. The thought is that this will be the machine tool storage i didn't have. Taps, dies, drill bits, machine tooling, etc. The surface plate can sit on top. That keeps hand tools over in the auto area and machine tools here where all the machine tools go.

I kept working on exhaust after that, taking a break to fit a new Harris 355 regulator to the TIG. The old one was leaking like crazy and i couldn't get it apart to fix it.

We cut up the old audi exhaust and found this:

20230413_151408.jpg

Exhaust pipe diameter is 1 7/8", and has this neat flat spot in it mid-section.

20230413_151416.jpg

I calc that out at about 2.75 sq in pinched down to about 1.65 sq in at the flat spot. the new exhaust is 4.44 sq in cross section through out.

So i got the mid section pipe installed permanently.

Fitted the piping on driver side. That's all welded up and installed. I only have the pass side left. I am waiting on a new angle finder though, the old one died. Everything chinese around here seems to die when i have to swap batteries. They are very very good at premature failures i gotta say.20230415_143133.jpg

Nice. I was gonna recommend you get something new given all your issues, but it seemed in poor taste with how much effort you were putting in. I just took delievery of a Ford Maverick a few weeks ago, a bit more ideal for me, but more or less the same vehicle. Happy to see brands coming back with small pickups! Seems like a very ideal car for you.

Hah, that's what the wife said... you're getting good at that, you should hang a shingle... nobody could afford what i want to charge!!!

Its the wife's car. I'm borrowing until the audi is done. which won't be fast enough for anybody.

I cleaned up all the lathe toolholders today, got plenty to sell.
And started changing the oil on the trans on the audi. It drained fine, but is filling terrible.

I *hate* ambiguity.

Good enough is drivable. Perfection is no holes in the fenders... lol.

I have to reassemble the suspension, figure out a fix for the intake manifold valve, and put the frontend back on.

Going to be a rough week, back at work, and driving to Detroit 3 days this week.

gotchya.... I guess I thought it was further along.... How long do you expect the suspension work to take?

Hopefully it goes forward without too many more snafu's.... Wishful thinking, eh?? LOL

Thank you. I have the last part tacked in place, BUUUUUT, we lost power yesterday afternoon, it's still out now, the transformer at the substation blew up. They've moved the turn on time to 1:30pm today, but that's still tentative. We have an insider at the power company, they said that *IF* there is a mobile transformer unit, they can install it temporarily while they look for a transformer. And if there's no transformer available, one will have to be ordered FROM CHINA.

I hooked up my portable yesterday, but it's burning a lot of oil and shuts down on low oil after an hour or so. That's not a tenable position. I'm really paying for not getting the diesel gensets going earlier...

Family agreed, i need a working diesel genset. That may get higher priority this summer....

Ok, here we are. Had a bad cut on the passenger tailpipe. Had to patch it. Wasn't willing to redo.
20230421_195829.jpg

So i cut a little patch, tacked in place, welded up on the bench.

20230421_195836.jpg

And it pulled the pipe into the body. Too much shrinkage.

So get your cuts right to start. Don't patch.
20230422_105531.jpg

I ended up marking the pipe, cutting it, and pulling back into position.

20230422_111150.jpg

And here we are: DONE.

20230422_171005.jpg
20230422_171050.jpg

The muffler is usually last, and resonators first, but we're backwards due to packaging. we shall see what it sounds like!

And on to suspension and final assembly of front end.

I'm still working on consistency for my welds. For me it's a lot about position. If i'm out of position, it changes how the torch head points in relation to the puddle, if you tilt towards the direction of travel, you preheat the pipe in front of the weld, and that tends to heat it up a lot. I still have a lot to learn. There's no leaks at least!

It does rev a lot faster though. I'm thinking it'll be pretty sporty. the spare car intake valve is also broken, so at this point, i am going to have to fabricate something to fix that part. I'm not paying $650 for a new one.

didn't get very far. Started proper assembly, found bad bump stops. Ordered from east coast. This is how it goes with old cars and rare parts....

Went to change the MIG back over to standard steel, can't find the roll hub. SOOO, i am making one today. I don't have time to wait for parts to get shipped around. Saves $50 too. Pics in a while.

Well, i was going to update this thread with the mig roll holder, but got done with work last night and was doing some grinding on the tractor loader and managed to do this to myself.

Grinder wheel rolled over the back of my hand. Had a nice geyser. Touch typing is a pain now. Wife helped me get it sorted.

Before anybody asks, no hospital. I clot very well. Its getting itchy, so i know its knitting.
