Did you ever get the welder done?

Had to drop in as my Tapatalk had a pic of your welder and it peaked my interest. My neighbor has an old Lincoln at his farm that needs work that he would give me but I am so far over my tips when it comes to electrical work I am hesitant to try. Very impressed with you guys who can brings these machines back to life. Also, that ceiling looks great, from the pics it's seems to really brighten up the space. Last but not least, loving the convert Fairlane!

Thanks guys. I stopped on the welder for a bit. Not sure if i have bad caps or not. Dave kamp is helping me. Got some wheel dollies today so the convertible is movable!

Sunday i got all the floor joists out, pulled the nails and stacked them all.

Then i pulled down the wall.

Is where i ended up at. Cleaned and swept the floor, moved a few things around, and got the area ready to put up sheets.
The couch is going out on the burn pile. It's nice having the Fairlane up on skates. That's the only way i'm going to get the scaffold in there without disassembly. This is going slower than i hoped, but i am in sight of getting the ceiling done i think. Onward and upward!

I started tonight with the stack of lumber here.

And empty pallet rack.

Cut the stack up and got this:

Ready for car parts.
Then my boy and i pushed the convertible into the old man cave and the scaffold past it and then back out to where it was. Now i can hang sheets in the corner.

We also threw out the old couch. It was a mouse hotel.

No kidding! Probably several more times before i'm done, but at least we're in the home stretch. I'm starting to see final placements are in order. Once the steel is up in the back corner, there's no reason i can't move the wood tools there and fairlanes out. The bridgeport is near it's new home. The welders are too. We're getting there.

Been cleaning the shop last couple days. Before the next construction leg. Burnt up the pile of wood by cutting shelves. Loaded this one up.

Which cleaned up this area.

There was no where to walk here before.
I still have 2 or 3 more transmissions outside to deal with, but at least the shop is squared away.

Pallet racking is looking good, wish I had taken the time to paint mine, really made it look good, making great progress. Problem is it looks so good you will want to sit in a chair and just look at it and not want to mess it up.

Sunday i put up structure on the end wall and j channel. So i am ready for sheets. Tonight i had a helper for an hour so i put up 2 sheets. Wife is going out of town for a week, so i am "evicted" from the shop for a couple nights. Lol.

Only 8 sheets left on this job.

Thanks Jp, i think the hardest part of the welder mods is just keeping track of what you did since it takes so long to gather all the little bits you don't discover you need until you tear into it. I had to mail order ring terminals because NOBODY local stocks large stuff like that. Then i have to really scour for large gauge THHN wire that will work. And the feeder needs attention, so nobody carries parts for that, so i have to mail order everything there. It's a slow process for sure.

This is why its not for everyone. Great for Dave, gets most for free. A good share of these likely get bogged down, got some regulators I had great intentions of repairing, still need to order parts. ha Been a year.

Well, like normal, it never moves as fast as i think it will at the beginning. I did not get anything done friday or saturday. I wasn't feeling well. Sunday i was able to get a couple sheets up and some mowing done. Yesterday i finally got down to 2 sheets left and started putting the eave chutes and prepping for the last 2 sheets. i ran out of time and materials. need to make a run for some more lumber to make some more shelves to lay on to screw up the next panel.

Then i need to add the last 2 pcs of j-channel and cut the last two sheets and fit. After that, i'll put up the last of the lights, and then probably take a break and reorganize my stuff in prep for getting the lift in here. I MAY do something with insulation before lift, but not sure. it's more flexible at that point i think.

Been a while since i updated, there's still things happening here. I finished the ceiling last saturday. Right away got started on the lights, rebuilt all the remaining fixtures, installed new ballasts, and had my son help me hang them.

I had several stacks of lumber and plywood sitting around in the way and decided to move them all / consolidate them into the woodshop area.

To complete the wiring to the existing string, i needed to move a lot of stuff out of the way.
So i moved the road bikes over to the other side of the shop.

Which is clearing out this area, allowing me to move some other things.

So i slid over one of my shelving units and it fits perfectly in there. I have room for 4 of these i think, where i will store various supplies such as oil, filters, maintenance supplies, things like that. Like a mini warehouse.

Floor space is continuing to develop.

And now the scaffold moves easily to hook up the south light string.

Which leaves us here today.

Thanks Old! It's been so refreshing to see the changes in this space. It's turning from drudgery to excitement each time it gets a little better. The wife still can't stay in there long due to the clutter, but it feels like the end of the tunnel is in sight, and we will actually make a usuable space in here in time. I'm excited each time i come out here. That hadn't happened for a while.

Saturday didn't get much done, played catchup with house chores and shopping. Sunday i was working again. Got all the lights hung on the south string, and wired. I noticed that my dual switched ballasts won't light just two of the lights like they are supposed to, even wiring correctly, once a wire is attached to the second lead, it lights up that string when the first is powered. Not sure about that behavior. Perhaps those circuits are too sensitive? Anyway, that will not give my desired behavior, so i'm not sure what to do about it. I moved along anyways.

Then i cleaned some more, pulled the fairlane back a good ways, and started moving wood tools to the woodshop area.

Then i pulled a couple boards off the old mezzanine east wall and got the sawzall out to get rid of the old doorway.

Then broke that down and pulled all the nails. Lumber stacked on the wall lumber storage area.
Which frees the convertible for a more direct exit.

My last task on sunday was hanging one more of the center lights and prepping for wiring.

That's where we left it last night.
Tonight i'll try and move the convertible and get more lights hung.

Moved the convertible and made a runway to move scaffold. We hung the rest of the lights and i burned a little midnight oil and we finished the lighting last night!

Now i will disassemble the scaffold and we will see what tonight brings!

I am very excited! It looks like daylight in there now. And there's a significant amount of floor space to move too. I'll probably rearrange more stuff tonight when the scaffold disappears. The snowball is picking up steam!

Limited time the last couple of nights, and i don't have photos of everything yet, but cleaning and reorganization is in full swing!
I have moved most of the woodworking tools to the woodworking area, consolidated all the welders and welding table on the wall by the door, put a bunch more stuff up in the pallet rack, and disassembled and stored both the drywall lift and scaffold. LOTS of floor space opened up. It's actually easy to move around in there now.

Any suggestions on what to do next? Anybody have anything they want to see?

I plan to clean out the mezzanine and under the mezzanine this coming 4 day weekend, probably move some things around outside on the front pad of the shop and prep for getting the front of the shop opened up to weld in my cross bracing. Once that is done, the door opener will become somewhat of a focus. That's the only thing holding back the shop being more vehicle repair focused (other than the general clutter) But we are gaining on it!

I would work on removing things that don't belong. I see a couch and a chair that don't look like the rest of the stuff. Then I would dedicate a shelf for each car project and put all the parts associated with them away. Just think "like with like" for now and see how it goes. Don't rush putting things away just for the sake of making the floor space, that can make more of a headache later when you can't find the part you need because it is somewhere it shouldn't be. Looking good overall.

Your shop is like mine, we have so many things that really don't deserve the space we give them. When I get to a computer I will really look at your pictures and see what you have.

I'd get the Bridgeport and that big drill press moved to where you want them. You've got plenty of paths opened up to slide them down.
