The uprights are 3x3 and good for about 18klbs and the beams were specially selected to support 7500lbs. Oil is about 7lbs a gallon. Tanks are about 200lbs.ea. Beams are good for 10,600 for the 5.5in one and 13k for the 6in one. I couldn't get matching beams locally.

Lol, yeah, you can't get the engineer outta me. I didn't run the calcs for the concrete, but I already knew I was good there. :)

Like you said the pictures don’t work, I posted mine on my profile. Double shop 50 x 128x 23.5 with insulated foam filled panel walls. It is already too small, but I can live with it.

Got the cp200 welder converted to single phase and it welds sweet. 200 well spent. Also working on another sweet aquisition. Will show if and when it happens. Have a good Saturday all.

That wouldn’t be how I would advertise it.
Of course not. But the general perception these days seems to be new is good and warranty is what they want. If I make a bunch of welders I become the support guy. Not where I want to be.

We have a plan now for the door. Tues is supposed to storm, after that we have at least 4 days of mild sunny weather. Plan is rip off the front of the barn, make the welding to the door and get it all back on in that window. If I have an extra day of nice weather maybe take an extra day off and blow in the insulation.

As we all know, the best laid plans of men...

Working on the door again. Beefing up the verticals. Welded the square tube to the angle. Then set the length to 13ft 10in. Walked away for a bit and found my cut no further. Dahmit! The teeth are all gone. This isn't that old either. Where to get decent blades? Olsen is all you can get around here.536a7838e7a4610d4e9efea090b96b11.jpgf1f9c40b633d2f560e40821e870ded13.jpg58da7d3c985fd9cfebecc8d78ce45193.jpg52ef11610ad04feda1fc4cb7eed14183.jpg

I don't remember where you are in Michigan but you could try ALRO or Production Tool Supply for blades....I think they carry Lenox and Morse

I took yesterday off because it was my birthday and i don't want to go to work on my birthday, so my plan was to tinker in the shop for the morning. I ended up finishing one of the new door tracks and installing it.

I added a 2x2 square tube between the old angle iron and the new angle iron. My thought was when i originally designed the door i didn't run any calculations on how much force would be on a single spot on the angle. After seeing how bent sections of my old trailer was i realized that angle iron wasn't really that strong and decided to add to the tracks to head it off at the past.

Putting my new mig welder to task, and noticing that mig isn't really very good at penetration. Surprising how little you actually get. I need to improve my technique. I might use 7018 on the other one just for fun. I'm much better at stick anyway.

I noticed the clearance between the door edge and the track means i might have to get thinner fasteners or add bolts somewhere else. Also picked up the bearings for the door . Need to get those installed and then work on the framework above hopefully the rain dies down for a few days. Been really rainy here lately. I might have missed the no rain window and just have to pull metal and let it rain.

I have to run my mig about two settings hotter than the chart wants to get enough penetration. The stick welder just seems to be better for heavier projects. Both are older Millers.

One other thing i need to do is check my polarity on the mig. i didn't get the gas valve on the feeder until recently and was running flux core before i did. DCEP i think for MIG.

Love the older millers. Not as portable as the newer stuff, but DAMN reliable.

Out in the sweltering heat last night. My boy helped me pull down the left track to add more mounting holes and put it back. One left to go then moving outside to work on framework.33f69518a95156a970cdd135ea0afd19.jpge353235fc6dfbfd08162f965a6d3f0ea.jpg

I think the heat *****, it is slowing me down to a crawl. Glad to see you got something done, wish I could say the same. At least this winter you will be insulated and have heat! Keep reminding yourself of that, and pat yourself on the back.

I saw your bandsaw blade (!!) I think Wellsaw makes their own blades, but i think its in discrete lengths to fit their saws. Tiger tooth or the like is the brand.

I usually order from McMaster Carr when I have enough stuff built up on the dry erase board to justify shipping. Seems like I have gotten Starrett blades then which seem good enough. I try to keep a couple extras in stock in case there's a bad pop sound....

I am with you on the heat and humidity. I was in the attic area with 2 box fans going upstairs and two ceiling fans downstairs pulling low voltage wiring and I still sweated thru 2 shirts. Mini splits are coming to this shop next year!!

Well with one seriously pumped up arm :O ... The door tracks are done and installed. Few dozen 3/8 x 5-6 in lag bolts holding each track to the posts. Each track is 13ft 10in long made of 2x2x1/8 square tube welded to 2 2x2x1/8 angle and weighing about 200lbs each.

I have decided to revise the lateral hinges to better support forces and ease install. Not sure what that looks like at this point except a bit different hinges. With the mig up and running now I can do more things like make hinges if needed.

Going to be ******* on that this week among the raindrops and other projects.1cd2d75ba3dbd6fbf8b904b861cd47f3.jpg

Yeah I guess. It sure has been a long slog getting here though. It boggles the mind some of the buildings on this site and how fast they get there.

Ummm...Strouty...aren't you in Maine? If so, you should try a summer in the Deep South - heat, humidity, and low temp at night in the 80's. Not only that, but summer starts in May and isn't done until October.

For Maine, it has been really hot and humid. If I wanted to have these types of temps, I would move somewhere south. Yesterday was 90s with high 70 percent humidity. We used to get a couple hot weeks during the summer, but this has been a couple of hot months. :headscrat. It is all cyclical, so I expect that the temps will be back to normal soon. They are saying we will be having a bad winter, I can live with that, I can always put more clothes on, but I can only take so much off before it turns into a bad situation for everyone involved.

HA HA!!! :shocking: :lol_hitti

I really hope it doesn't get that cold. I'd move south if i could, but i'm tied to the industry here.

I am fine with and enjoy the 30s, once we get below that it is OK, but only if it stays like that for a while, that way I get used to it. Working on towers during the winter probably toughens me up, but anytime we get below zero, I am more of an inside type person.

Yikes! That is fairly hot and humid. Doesn't it at least cool off at night?

FYI - I used to spend summers in Grand Falls, New Brunswick (across the border from Presque Isle, ME). I recall the temp getting into the 90's, but didn't feel hot at all because the humidity was low. At least that's what I remember; that was about 40 years ago...

The temps do drop down at night, but our house stays hot. We did get a couple of nice days last week, but so far we set a July record for the hottest month ever and now August has set the same record. The people that like the heat and don’t “ mind” the humidity all seem to be people working in air conditioned offices. I know it has been hot and humid in other areas too, I think 86 has suffered as well, but I am not sure what is normal for other areas.

It's been pretty hot here too. 95 the last few days, with thunderstorms keeping the humidity up. Michigan usually has high humidity anyway, with all the lakes here. June was hot too, with 95 degrees during my boy's grad party. Nobody stayed long as the air con couldn't keep up in the house with all the extra people. I'm sorta looking forward to the cooler temps, but also a bit worried because i don't have the heating fully automatic yet. Been ******* on the door and insulation. Once that's done, i'll feel better.

You have been making some serious progress considering schedules and heat. I know for a fact that the heat has all but destroyed almost every planned schedule I had for most outdoor projects.

Finishing up the power wiring for the boiler and injection loop. Parts for the new hinges are cut, need to weld them up. The floor loop will now inject warm water into the floor as long as boiler maintains 140f. I'll run a separate controller for the boiler and safeties. 302991c854b6e152dcb69a806cf8f6cc.jpg8fceacabe7da93504512ed4e23820fd3.jpg
