That is awesome and the shaper for $100 is certainly a “you ****” award.

I had to stop in at the Salvage Garage today and I am getting stressed since I haven’t been there to really do anything in a couple weeks. At least your thread helps keep me from dropping off the deep end, plus I can see that there is hope for guys like us.

Hang in there Strouty. It takes time and progress comes in streaks. You will get there.

I'm currently reading the book "getting things done - art of stress free productivity" by David Allen. Interesting book. One of my main take aways on his methods is defining the next "action" on a project.

86 you are really kicking *** late in the summer! It has been so hot in Texas that I haven't accomplished much but I will start to soon as it cools down. Plus I have been dealing with my dads estate. I now have his 50 year accumulation to deal with as well as my own more modest one. I need to start selling things...

i hear that. i saw all kinds of stuff when reorganizing that could be sold, too valuable to just pitch, most of it went into totes. I fear the additional storage area will end up being more **** to deal with later.

I also hear you on the estate. I have an enormous load of stuff i need to unload for mom. We've started marketing some of it, but it's not getting the hits like we thought it would.

I know it may be tough, but the best bet may be to hire an auction company that deals with estate sales, they will catalog it and set up the auction. The one I use around here has lots of online auctions so no worries about 100 people all showing up at your place at once, the selling price is the estates and the buyers premium goes to the auction house. Just a thought, but would be the easiest way to get rid of everything in one stop.

MyBuddy has a tactic on Marketplace, he lists and item, after a week if it isn't sold he reduces the price and continues to do so until it sells. If something is truly valuable, it may need to go on eBay to get the best money. I too have lots of "totes" that are stored away, full of stuff that is "too valuable" to just pitch.

It is a problem, in some cases it is just a mind game that we play to rationalize a bigger problem.

Most of mine is collector car stuff as I imagine 86's is so it isn't that hard to get rid of. Just takes time. I actually enjoy the process and there is no time pressure for me.

I would be interested in the 7" shaper , if it ever became a unwanted tool. A few other things would be on my radar as well.

I would like to actually use the shaper at some point. it should be functional if a little rusty. I have a localish guy to me that has an original stand from atlas, but he wants 4X what i paid for the shaper. That's a hard pill to swallow.

I hate when that happens.... it is valuable $$$ .... but may end up in a dumpster if nobody knows what it is after something happens to him. Not wishing anything happens to him of course, but he should sell it to you at a reasonable price.... for history's sake after all.

I also need to reduce my own tonnage. For instance get down to only one engine lathe.

I'm just hoping it get high enough that its not a money loser. The trucking distances involved in rural South Dakota make the economics of scrap even worse. Scrap prices are always much better down here in Texas not to mention that fuel is much much cheaper.

On the flip side, we'll be working outside in shorts and t-shirts in January while Strouty and 86 and the rest of the folks in the Great White North are dealing with blizzards and such.

I'd love fairlane parts too, but the reality is you are way way too far away and 83 is close. Please don't throw any away. That stuff is getting so rare i almost never see any for sale. You have to go to National Ford meets to get anything.

Got a call from Mom last night, she was feeling ill. She called 911 and i jumped in the car and drove down (about an hour) and met her at the hospital. So i will be a little sporadic until things settle down.

So back onto the shop, got 1Million things to do before winter hits, but trying to stay focused on the shop cleanup. If i can at least get all the big stuff in approximate final places, i'll feel ok enough to move onto other pressing matters. I've been digging into the back corner of the shop, where the last bit of mezzanine will be going, trying to clear it enough to get the last 2 sections of pallet racking up, and finish that by putting the tire tools and probably the hydraulic crimper under it. Maybe a couple other things too, but i think that's where the those tools end up. I really don't have anywhere permanent to put the wood tools. That makes me sad. But it is what it is. Wood and metal don't really work too well together anyway. Long term, if i live long enough, i may add onto the back of the shop, but i think i'll probably run out of time.

Working back into the corner. I have one upright that is tall enough, and one i need to add onto. And 4 beams that need shortened about 4".

I also fixed my shop vac. It was full of sawdust from the table saw. Moral: Don't clean out the table saw without a filter. The impeller was packed full of sawdust. I think i may have thrown away a shop vac or two over the years without trying to fix. They really are simple to fix. Bunch of screws, blow it out. Done.

Now i can get to the bees.

100%. I scheduled an entire day with her this spring for her birthday. She is 80 and lives alone. I couldn't think of anything to give her more valuable than my time. I think she really liked it.

Good to hear the Mother emergency is ok. Always an eye opener with aging parent(s).

Nice progress on arranging shelving and equipment. I hear the struggle with mixing wood working with metal working. One quick idea that I use for some of my equipment is to simply cover it with an old sheet, blanket, tarp, etc. Helps with dust and debris....

I also got a new IPR put on my 7.3. It still surges a bit, but i suppose that could be from air in the oil. I'm about ready to light it on fire.

Bummer on the 7.3. I put about 150k on the 7.3 in my 2003 Ex. Helluva engine, but they do have their problems. At least you don't have a 6.0...

Got some strange suggestions on possible problems. Your speedo sensor in axle is bad... but your speedo works. WTF? It's digital!
