I wish I did get it running. There's more stuff to fix yet. I did work on the shop though. And a honey do.

Just finished up the oil overflow system on the oil tanks, put some grating on top of that, so gained another 4x8 shelf area. Tuned up the disc and pulverized the garden and next on the agenda is clean the shop AGAIN. The last of the replacement parts came in the mail, the MIG, the torch and everything else that was burned in the fire is now officially fixed. Expensive lesson and on with life. I need to get to working on the briggs again and get that project wrapped up so i can start mowing with something a little nicer than the bushog.

This is true. Been trying to stay busy, but lots of distractions around here. I did finish pulling the lathe taper attachment apart. Now i can get to cleaning it better and figure out where to get bearings. Almost all are frozen.

I thought i posted i had done more, but it seems to have disappeared. We moved the lift parts to the front of the shop, and i have started playing garage tetris again. Preparing to get the Benwil lift up. Staging is in full force.

Yeah, i want to restore it all, but it was kind of a beat down so i just avoided it all. I had been waiting for my thermal camera to show up, it did, now i need to put the floor on nuclear and see if i can see where the tubes are. It takes a while though, so i have been waiting for more time on my days off. This weekend i'm going to help a buddy in Saginaw replace some condensors in a party store, and he's giving me a 5 ton condensor for my trouble, so that would get hvac parts for the shop. Another project though. I'm pretty focused on getting lifts up. That would clean up a ton of the shop yard.

It's not a huge project. More helping a friend. With the temps being 90plus here for weeks and no end in sight, hvac upped in priority a bit.

Rattlesnake I have indeed. I just put a new back tire on and I've been 'breaking it in'. Fabulous bike. Really appeals to my love of v8 muscle cars.

The floor tank is heating up and we are almost ready to hang the big beam. I have the thermal camera and the instructions.

I also went Saturday to help a buddy on an hvac install and he gave me a bunch of hvac stuff so we will be finishing the heat pump also.

Ok, so we have confirmed that the thermal camera will see the tubing in the floor and i have ordered wedge bolts and a drill bit. I picked up the big HF SDS rotary hammer yesterday. I'd say we're in the home stretch on the lift install. That gives me a couple of days to get chalk marked on the floor before the bit and bolts show up. I'm fairly stoked to get this project over with, get the fairlanes parked again and start getting the 2 post lift prepped for install. I have maintenance that needs to get done before winter.

I know, then I will wish it were summer again. I just wish it could be mid September to early October weather year round, let the mountains have snow and the beaches have sun, I just want 14 hours of daylight with 55 to 60 degree temps.

It's Pandemonium here.

On Tuesday night, we finally found a truck my boy likes in Nashville, TN. We made plans to leave the next morning and drive down and inspect and then drive back same day. I took the day off from work, and cancelled a gravel driveway load i had scheduled for Wed. Moved all my appointments, and we planned for a 5AM departure and a 12PM meet with the owner. Got up at the hairy a**-crack of dawn and started Wed AM. Pretty uneventful trip down, until about 10am when the driver of the gravel truck called from my driveway and said where you want it? i had left 2 messages on the voicemail service to call them off, but of course nobody got those. Rescheduled and sent him home. We arrived at the owners home and gave a good lookover before he arrived, and we went for a couple test drives, it seems totally ok, so we make the deal, and start on the way home. Gassed up, checked fluids again, stopped at the Taco hell to get some grub, while in line, we are accosted by a young guy asking us to buy him some food. He didn't look homeless and seemed vaguely like he was on drugs. BAAAAD teeth. I'm thinking Meth addict. After that we set off. Make it 50ish miles up I65 and my kid calls me in a frantic call the trucks temp gauge is pegged! We pull over and it's boiling out like crazy. i spy a popped coolant line. Small hole, spraying coolant. Probably popped on the drive. Calm him down, we go up the road to the next exit, Bowling Green KY and stop at a parts store. buy a bunch of supplies and head back. Repair the coolant line on the side of the road, Refill with coolant, check fluids, start up, seems to be ok, but there's a bubble every 15-20 secs in the rad. Ok, probably popped a head gasket. We drive up the road to the next exit, pull off and ask the parts store owner if we can park there for a couple days while we retrieve a different truck to tow it. He agrees. We drive home, through countless DELUGES of biblical proportions. Wipers on fast and can't see??? Wow. Get a phone call from neighbor about 10pm, informing us that the state police informed them that there was an armed fugitive they were hunting that was in our neighborhood and lock the doors and have the phone ready. I know my pistol and shotgun were out in the shop as i've been trying to get the groundhog that's been plaguing me. In the UNLOCKED shop. And my wife and daughter are home alone. Needless to say, we pushed on the skinny pedal a little harder. Got home 1130pm, retrieved the guns and battened the hatches. Took a sleeping pill and passed out. Total awake time: 23hrs.

And i get to do it all over again on Friday.... i may need the weekend to recover.

The happy boy in his truck.

Glad the young man chose the right brand.
:)
If head gasket, just throw on some aluminum heads, cam and so on while your in there. It's his money why not?
Zf would be cool. not cheap though.

Yes I just wish I could impress upon my son that things happen, what's important is how you handle it and deal with adversity rather than totally lose your mind and shut down.

Thanks haha. He's pretty much a Ford truck guy because I refuse to work on anything else. With his current income it will be a patch job. No goodies quite yet. Lol.

Sounds like you are doing that. Lead by example. He is lucky to have a dad willing to go that far for a truck, and one that will help teach him how to deal with adversity.

That's a great truck, that's also the year I graduated from High school, damn I feel old now!!!!!
That should be a great truck that you two can work on together and do some upgrades to later, if you want to. Enjoy!:rocker:

Fantastic adventure and one you both will never forget about! That looks like a clean truck, hopefully a 3-season-er in Michigan...

Aside, I blew out 3 of 4 tires on my gooseneck trailer coming up from Nashville loaded with 2 tractors and all of my outdoor "stuff" back in '10. 2nd one was right there on I-65 at Bowling Green. They do make tires with expiration dates lol! It turned an ~8 hour trip into a 15 hour trip.

Ouch! Yep, tires do expire. I found out similar on my gooseneck but local. That was a long night too.

We arrived home at 4:15AM. 21:50 on the trip. Longest road trip of my life. And His.

I got up after 1.5hrs sleep and took the trailer back. Came home and crashed. Everybody slept until at least 11.

We just took the truck for a test drive around the block, mild overheat but stays cool-ish if you keep speed up and power input down. Getting gaskets on order today. We're all stoked with how nice the truck is.

Edit a pic of us eating dinner in Kentucky.

Good to know the condition out weighs the trouble. Truck looks good from the picture.

The zf swap would be great if its used like a truck, but a t45, 3650, or t56 woukd be way more fun to slam gears in for a first "sport truck".

He's going to be using the truck in his business, a lawn service. Needs to be towing regularly.

I think he's set on zf5. Even over the m5od we have here.
