I came down with the 'rona on 1 January. Most likely caught while flying from TX to VA a few days earlier. Anyway, I'm vaccinated x 3. Suspect it was Omicron. Felt like a bad head cold - congested head, mild fever, etc. Coughing came a few days after symptoms started. I am about 100% now, but it lasted a bit longer than I expected.

Get well soon!

Meh, don't want the hassle and feed the insurance beast. I'm treating it like covid and being careful. Self tests are couple weeks out. By then it won't matter.

The tests were difficult to find here, too. I found some by monitoring a thread on NextDoor.com posted by someone looking for one locally. Someone posted about tests showing up at a nearby drugstore and I drove 25 miles to pick one up. I also ordered some on Amazon, but they took forever to get here.

Ok, few days in now, and i'm feeling pretty good today. If not close to 100pct, then close enough i can't tell too much. A bit of fatigue left maybe.

So some analysis and my observations:

Day 1: tues afternoon, working from home, towards end of the day, started feeling a little nauseous and around 4pm, decided to lay down for a while. It didn't get any better, so i just killed the night laying down. At dinner, tacos, ate 2 bites and threw up. Got a good nights sleep with aid of a sleeping pill (i have enormous trouble sleeping)

Day 2: Woke up around 830am, felt terrible. Headache, nausea, dizziness, generally ill. Ate toast around noon to put down some vitamins. Back in bed, whole day. Around dinner time, wife made me a little leftovers and kept it down.

Day 3: Woke up around 5, still feeling ill, headache slightly better. In bed whole day. Ate meals as normal, kept it down. Took 12mg ivermectin and normal vitamin regimen. Bed at normal time, slept ok.

Day 4: Woke up feeling noticeably better, headache much better. Not much nausea, occasional dizziness. Stayed in bed, avoiding others and just resting. Around 4pm, work mates harrasing me for things i logged on and did a little business. Felt queasy at times, after ate normal meals and took 12mg ivermectin and vitamins.

Day 5: Saturday, woke up feeling better still, probably 80pct functionality, enough to go start boiler in shop and get up to 50F as it had been quite cold. Just generally took it easy, watch TV, occasional light dizzyness. Headache mostly gone. Took 12mg ivermectin and normal vitamin regimen. Occasional coughing, but really minor. Bed at normal time, slept well.

Day 6: Sunday Woke up 8ish, feeling pretty well, headache essentially gone, no congestion, no cough, occasional slight dizziness. Able to make food, and working in shop at reduced level.

Ok, skipping the covid narrative, been working on the onan. Got the coil mounted last night, using the supplied squeeze bracket. Then tested the pickup this afternoon with one of the magnets to get a feel for the trigger point. then installed the flywheel and marked it on all sides of the pickup to get a location. Then drilled the flywheel and dropped the magnet in the hole and tested again. Still fires nicely. Then was going to Epoxy the magnet in place, but couldn't find it in the shop mess, so used RTV instead. If anyone has thoughts on how durable the RTV will be, let me know. Pics below. Once it dries, i'm ready for a firing / cranking test. Have to do this now, out of machine, as once installed in forklift, there's no way to set timing. So i think threadlocker on all bolts is probably indicated.

I appear to be content monitored. Neat.

Oh well, it's Ryan's forum, he can do what he wants. If anyone wants my analysis, PM me an email and i'll send it to you directly.

Good to see you back working on projects!

On one hand, I would have my doubts on the RTV, but then I think about scraping it off of gasket mating surfaces and I think it will be just fine.

No smoke this time on the coil!!!

Already scrapped the RTV idea. It's too flexible. Found the epoxy, installed magnet in said epoxy. Curing now. Pulled the top off the carb, found 1/4 in of rust. Working on scraping that out now. Once that's done, i need to get some gasoline and should be ready to fire it tomorrow. I'll jury rig some cables and a battery. Once it's running, set timing and reinstall tins then it goes back in the machine. Compression seems good and so far the pertronix is working like it's supposed to. I also ran the disc sander over the flywheel surface. MAN does that thing move around a lot. Not in radial direction, but in axial direction. Casting is very poor.

Well, the cough and phlegm showed up. Yippee. Went and got more totes this morning. Should have enough to empty out the barrel yard then this year. Assuming i can find some forklift / barrel tools. No way i'm doing that manually.

Totes are UV sensitive and get really brittle when left in the sunlight for long periods of time. I have a pending catastrophe with the totes full of used oil that the previous landowner left behind. So I guess you could tarp them. On the other hand, barrels rust out from the bottom when left in the dirt and start leaking.

Yes, but it doesn't idle well. I found a lot of slop on the throttle shaft, and ordered a carb kit for it. Let's hope it arrives soon. In the meantime, i'll fab up the new alternator mount and see what else i can get done with it.

Sloppy throttle shaft= air leaking into carb where it doesn't belong. No cure but a sleeve/bushing and the proper sized reamer, o rgood gracious a NEW CARB.

NB. check the tapered end of the idle screw for damage also. Good luck "brother tech".

The kit i ordered appears to have throttle shaft bushings and a lip seal for that spot. Should fix it up good. I like the carb design. All i did was clean it out and put gas in it. Fired right up!

As you know most bushing reduce inner diameters after pressing in.
Unless the bores were under sized to begin with, they will require careful reaming.

My Sharona left me with a cough for a month and a half, basically every time I went from a cold space to a hot space
I would start coughing, or if I ate anything with dairy type stuff in it. I was using cough drops a lot and my favorites were never in stock in the big bags, if at all, so I placed an online order for $40 worth of cough drops. The next morning, you guessed it, no cough, it has been four days now, only coughed maybe five times and it was insignificant. If I had know it was that easy to get rid of it, I would have bought $200 worth of cough drops weeks ago...

Thanks guys. Even the cough hasn't been bad. I feel like it was more than a normal cold for me, but less than the fear mongers say it was. Anyway, i'm glad it's mainly behind me.

Alternator mount is figured out, parts are getting cut out, fuel pump and wires showed up, fuel pump installed, working correctly. Terminals show up tomorrow. Wanted to install engine, but still need to pickup some sheetmetal plugs in town, didn't make it today. I think it's all coming together this weekend though. Should be critical mass. If i keep up on task.

Boiler is driving me nuts. Gotta clean it about every 2-4 hrs. I had an idea on a self cleaning boiler. Might try to engineer that and leave the option open on the new boiler. Soon as the Namco is functional, and the floor is cleaned, new boiler is a priority.
