9/32" Snap on midgets

I have acquired 2 snap on ratchets, both are 9/32" drive. One is marked as Midget M-701, and the other is Midget M-70M. I have used the search function to find out as much as I can about these but am still not sure what parts to buy to convert them over to 1/4". Or if any collectors on here are interested in trading I may do that. I will post pics later today.

No way to convert them to 1/4"

Most 9/32" drives were made from the 20's to 1940's but they were sold thru the mid 1960's

Not a big coolector market out there except those trying to fill in sets of find replacement parts or pieces for sets.

Unless I'm completely misunderstanding, you have two choices:

(1) Snap-On manufactured several drive-to-drive adaptors in the 1940's. You want Part Number A-6, which fits on a 9/32" drive handle and has a 1/4" drive business end.

(2) The M70-M and M70-L (9/32" drive) ratchets and the GM70-M and GM70-L (1/4" drive) ratchets were EXACTY the same, with different size drive plugs. The drive plug is removed and re-installed with two screws. This is how Snap-On sold 1/4" drive ratchets in 1942, a full two years before they offered 1/4" drive sockets, handle, and extensions.

Having said that, I gotta believe it would be much easier to just find a 1/4" drive ratchet than either the A-6 9/32"-to-1/4" adaptor or an early 1/4" drive plug.

I think I am just going to clean them up and give them to my son. They were given to me by my dad, and he got them from his dad. I was just thinking it would be cool to put 1/4" parts in them so I can use them, and keep the 9/32 guts if I ever wanted to change them back.
