I would like to install both of my garage door openers. I've installed a few over the years and it's not very tough. These doors are 9'X9'. I'll probably go with a chain drive. Who makes the 9' openers? Do they just offer an extension to the track, or can you buy a one-piece 9'track?
Thanks in advance.

I have a Liftmaster 10' chain drive on my 10' door, and I think that my 9' door used the same model opener. I never gave a thought as to how long each bar is. I do know that they are all once piece bars. Now I wish that I had the Liftmaster 3800. If you were close, I would sell you mine...

I have whisper drives at the house and they use a rubber belt. I had to install the extensions for my 9' doors. They are really quiet and being my bedroom is over the garage, my wanted it that way.

Liftmaster makes 7', 8', and then 10' one piece rails. If you get one of the DIY openers with the 8' extension you can make it open all but about 6" from going all the way up. You will need to mount the opener just high enough to clear the door and mount the arm as high as possible on the top section.

May want to look at a 3800 jackshaft opener, easier to install and no need for any rails.

I have Chamberlain 7200 series chain drive openers on my 10'W x 9'9"H doors. The openers came from Sam's Club and the 10' extension kits were ordered directly from Chamberlain, ~$60/ea about 6 years ago. I have 3 of them and have had 0 problems with any of them.

I have had 3 different openers on my old garage over the past 15 years. First 2 were chain drives, but I much prefer the current one which is a screw drive. That said, I have two LM3800s in the new garage (10x10 doors), and they are much superior to either.
