While not building a garage, I'm looking for something to help me build a pavilion. I understand I could use 3-4-5 to square the fenceposts but I'm looking for something better or a tool.

What I'm hoping to find is something I can mount to a tripod that will light 2 points at a 90* angle and I can measure from there. Everything I seem to find is for aligning cabinets inside the house.

Any thoughts or ideas or just go for the 3-4-5 and measure the diagnols to be sure it's square?

I have one but other than laying floor tile, I haven't found a good use for it.

I looked at that but I don't know if that would work in the yard. I guess if I did it at night?

Don't ask.
I'd do the 3/4/5 method (6/8/10 works too).
Since the corner post is what you want to be referenced a tripod won't work (you could put it on the corner post). Lasers are hard (some impossible) to see in daylight.

If you really want to get high tech and tripod mounted you'll want a UTS (Universal Total Station).

You can multiply the 345 rule to get whatever demension you need and as long as your your demensions are right diagonals won't lead you wrong

I have a $100 Bosch laser level, and it's just about useless in the sun. Inside it'll throw an easy 30 feet plus. I used it for some outdoor work, but had to work at dusk and sunrise.

For the cost of a good outdoor daylight laser, I'd consider a rental.
