Round 2 on my CL search for a decent box ......

Found a 90's husky 23 drawer box for $300, 13 drawer lower, 10 drawer upper.....the box looks identical to the 90s vintage mac boxes of the same specs. Any thoughts on these boxes?

Here's a post I found about these

I had bought a Mac tool box (Canadian made) in 97 also when Home Depot was selling the same box (Canadian) as Husky. I later bought a top Husky box and threw it on Mac lower and removed the Husky emblems. Same color, couldn't tell the difference. I had to replace the bearing slides on the long drawer of the bottom box because they failed after 5 years of daily use.

My cousin bought it from me and still has it at my job. I would also not consider it daily pro usage.

It's only going to be used for home storage and spare small parts so I can get rid if all my tool bags and bins. I'll probably just resell the upper on CL since it is overkill for me.

Excellent tool box, identical to the MAC toolbox, made by Beach (now owned by Stanley) in Canada. At that price it's an absolute steal, go get it. I would also bet that some of the Blue Point boxes were made in the same plant.

Blue point:

Also, those Husky tool boxes came with a lifetime warranty, if a slide goes out call the 1-800- something Home Depot number and they will connect you to Stanley who will send you out new slides.

Figured it's better than giving harbor freight or craftsman my $$$ for a china box. Hopefully it's still there tomorrow morning :crossfingers:

Have that exact box at work. Got it in 2001, used it for mostly home storage, now I use it for work, heavy line diesel work. For 300 that is a good deal. Hope it is still available.

That is correct, using cardboard boxes is better than buying a Chinese toolbox. Send the guy an email or call him this evening, make arrangements to check out the box tomorrow, don't lolly-gag or you'll miss it.

I have the bottom box and it's been great. Mine is home use, but it has held up with no problems. I have the black top box, that came out just after they discontinued this style, and it is not as nice as the bottom. If you are any where close to me, I'd buy the top box from you. I'd like to find a matching top box to mine.

Well I'm the proud owner of a canadian husky box! The guy used it in his home garage, still has the plastic on all the chrome trim. Ballbearing slides are still nice and tight and it only needs a few plastic drawer catches. The drawers are also deeper that the 16" HF box

You have bought a very nice toolbox (although the picture of it aren't showing up) at a great price, cheaper than the HF junk, proving once again the the HF toolboxes are no where near the value people seem to think they are.

I have that same Husky top and bottom and it's a great home box, I've had it for a long time and had no problems with it. You done good, $300 is a steal!

FWIW I also have the HF bottom box and I would even go so far as to say it's on par with that Husky. :shocking:

The drawers in this box are much deeper than the HF ones, and I can actually get parts for it by calling the number on the top drawer. I decided to keep the top because I know I'll never be able to find another when the time comes.

The seller deleted the ad so the picture link is dead, the GJ link I referenced in my first post shows the box I have

true, but have fun dealing with it lol. i have this same box (just sold the top box for 150 bucks lol) and when a slide went out they sent me one from the newest box, didnt fit. it took them 4 trys to get me the right slide and even at the end, i got it to work becuase i made it work.
and sadly, this next to a HF box they feel about the damn same.

Well I got the box in it's new resting place and I have a small issue with the box rocking a tiny bit. Is there a certain way that the swivel casters need to be aimed to prevent tipping? I'm not ruling out the flatness of the concrete but I just want to make sure everything else is correct before I start loading the box down.

you can put washers between the caster and box to shim the corner thats the problem... i pull the wheels off my toolchest and build a 2x4 and plywood base for most of my boxes and make a bench top... a base vs wheels prevents rocking... and box cant be rolled out the door by a theif... makes it immobile tho... unless you have a pallet jack or forklift in your shop and build a skid for the bottom of the box over a stationary base... all depends on your layout in your garage... good luck
