9ft Garage wall Options

I want to put some kind of walls on the unfinished sides of my attached garage. The walls are a little under 9ft tall. I would like to stay away from drywall because I don’t want to tape and I would be hanging a lot of stuff from the walls.Ex kayak, ladders, tools… I am leaning towards OSB wood but I would hate to have to use 2 4x8 boards and have to put a strip across. Anyone got advise? I will be using roll down insulation just in case I decide to heat it sometime over the winter. . Walls are 22x9ish.. Money is really not that big a deal so I don’t mind paying more for some other materials and the walls don’t have to look super great because it’s a garage. I am looking for ease of installation with good durability

cheapest would be to use OSB with a strip , either top, middle or bottom. you could get imaginative & run a 2x10 or 12 along the ceiling to create a molding look. you could use cement board along the bottom to take up the space & give you some water resistance to the bottom of the walls.
there was a thread on here where a member created a removable panel to create a chase so he could run future electric/air etc.
ideas are endless if your budget is too!

good luck with your project!

I've been using exterior Smartsiding on the interior of my garage and I really like it. It comes painted a tan color, but can be painted any color. Lowes and HD both have it and it's about $28 for a 4 x 8 sheet.

There's also the option of getting 10' plywood, it would be something like CDX (could be better than that, not sure), but they do sell it at my local lumberyard. Not sure of the exact range of thicknesses, but it might be worth a couple of calls if you like the wooden finish natural or painted.

I used 4x9 OSB. Local lumber yard had it but box stores didn't. I paid a premium compared to 4x8 but no horizontal seams.

4x9 OSB very common in all lumber yards around here. You do pay a premium but worth it IMO. 4x8 at Menards $8, 4x9 $11.65.

I don't know if you have Lowe's Home Improvement stores in your area, but there was a Lowe's near me (in Garner N.C.) that had 4 X 9 OSB for $10 a sheet:

Windstorm OSB Sheathing 7/16 CAT PS2-10 (Common: 7/16 x 4-ft x 9-ft; Actual: 0.418-in x 48-in x 109.125-in)

My walls are 10'. I used 1/2"X4X8 AC plywood laid vertically. I did 2' strips at the top. I did a 1x4 belly band on the seam. With this I can remove any portion of the wall in a 4' span to correct mistakes (only covered up one receptacle), or add gas, air, water or whatever I want with minimal problems.

1/2X4X10 plywood was about $20 per sheet more than the 4x8 I like the look and I prefer plywood to osb.

How about StoreWall or similar for the upper 4' to store bikes, kakaks, etc. Then drywall the lower 4' with a transition strip in between (or StoreWall in a different color). And then a durable, tall trim for the bottom 1' ( go all out with diamond plate for example). That would look pretty sharp.

i did the strip at the bottom. You will put stuff like tool boxes, welders etc and you will never see it.
