What in heck are some common uses for a 9mm socket... don't say a 9mm bolt either :bounce:

in the collective of me, and a few mates, over 50 years of wrenching experience all up, none of us can think of when we ever used that size.

and to think, i have 2 shiny new SO ones...

Batteries- usually ones that have corrosion so badly, either at the hold down or at the terminals (mostly terminals) that a 10 mm no longer fits. I can't specifically recall a make or model, but I swear there are some new terminals that use this obscure size, but not nearly as often as 8 mm or 12 mm.

My Nakamura bicycle has a 9mm nut to secure the gear wire on the rear shift mechanism. (Gave me an excuse to buy a 9mm Snap-on wrench. :D)

+1...I purchased my used '06 Escape a few years ago and went to the brakes and realized it had 9mm female hex caliper bolts :wtf:
That made me buy a 9mm hex socket to complete my set @ work (upgraded to a S/O complete metric 3/8" hex scoket set). Only damn size I didn't have!!!!!

Only times I've used my 9mm socket, was to removed rusted some 3/8" that there was hardly anything left to grip onto. It only worked a couple of times before I had to torch them off, anyhow.

9mm & 11mm are common on euro body parts. BMW, mercedes, Volvo, saab, etc. Other then that, I can't think of one single time I have used a 9mm on a real bolt. Their always clips with cheap-o nuts.

I have Carrillo rods that have that size, but they are a 12 point.

Very rare on body parts on Euro cars. 11mm is used a lot on brake and clutch lines, but rarely anywhere else. (Sometimes used on aftermarket headbolts for VM-System diesel engines, and on intake manifold bolts on Fiats.) 9mm is used mostly on brake bleeders. (Often brake cylinders and BMWs.)

It's a common size on bicycles from the '80s and '90s. Lots of brake parts and derailleur parts have 8, 9, and 10mm hardware.

Industrial machines of German origin have them, grease fittings in particular. Also Italian glass lamination and cutters too. 9,11 and 12 are all fairly common on the smaller component assemblies. Those three with 14 and 17 will do most everything on the machines but there's also standard usually mixed in.

There are lots of 9mm bolts and nuts on bikes, from my experience. Also a lot of 11mm fasteners.

not too many 11mm bolts on bicycles. 11mm on a manitou fork. but as a bicycle mechanic i pretty much never use the 11mm. 9mm is on cheapo derailleurs

Brake bleeders, trim pieces, a few weird-fasteners on some Volvo trucks I've seen, and Scania.
Encountered a handful on old, old reefer engine components like the injection pump bleedscrews, intake manifold plugs.
Some pieces buried in the dash of my Ford's and my friend's VW collections. I think I ran into one on an Audi clutch once.. could be wrong?

Most commonly, as a replacement for that 3/8" that you just broke. A 22oz. hammer does the job of persuading it on, and boy oh boy- never rounds 'em off!
