Trying to figure out the best way to go for cooling the garage. Its roughly a 33x50 (1500 sq/ft) attached garage with 10' ceilings. Finished in drywall and insulated. It has 4 ceiling fans already and 2 smaller windows. Its decent most of the time with the windows opened and fans on but on humid days still not real comfortable to work in. Biggest window unit that will fit is a 10k BTU, I tried one hoping it would kill the humidity and cool the main area I work in but it didnt touch it.
For heat, I have a 5 panel gas wall unit that does ok but the downside to that is that it is on a private gas well and if the house and that are both running, it will use all the gas and kick off until it recovers. This winter Im hoping to burn wood to heat the house and use the garage heater when I need to work in it.
With that said, I'm looking to use electric since we dont really have a 100% reliable source of gas. Just started looking at the mini split systems that people mentioned on here, how are those for heat? Would that be able to keep the garage at 50 when it 20 deg outside (southern Ohio)? Are there any other options I should be looking into? Are the size rating pretty accurate or what size should I be looking at?
This forum has been a wealth of info so far, thanks alot
