Is there such a thing as an A/C unit that rather than disposing of "the heat" into the air outside the structure being cooled, has water running to it and disposes of the heat through the water?

Kinda like a ground water heat pump works in A/C mode.

I'm thinking about a larger sized window A/C unit in size.

Anyone aware of anything out there?

Yes, they're used in factories to cool work stations among other uses and they're called "portable air conditioners". They are available in both water-cooled and air-cooled versions.

One manufacturer of them:

The local hospital has a system where they draw water from a nearby lake and use the cold lake water to cool the building.

They are building a new tower on the other side of the property but arn't using the lakewater system. I suspect they've got a reason for why.

I've often thought about using a radiator from a car along with a 12V rad fan to do something similar.

It's a lot of wasted water tho unless you can find a way to re-use the water.

Yes. They have water cooled condensers that use water to extract the heat from the space that is being cooled. They are much like a ground source heat pump loop, but use an open loop cooling tower (or evap cool unit), to cool, and return the water to the condenser, for another pass. They usually require some sort of water treatment, depending on your water quality. They are primarily used in the industrial, and commercial applications, and can require a good deal of preventive maintenance.

A lot of homes built locally had water cooled condensers for A/C, but the State of California has prohibited new ones.In older subdivisions the water ran into the gutters.
