I can't get past the A/C line being inside a wall; that blows my mind.

My house, built in 1977, has the lineset for the upstairs system buried in an interior wall. I know when I had both systems replaced twelve years ago, they replaced the downstairs lineset; not sure about the upper one. Apparently, it doesn't leak though. *knocks wood*

Here is the email I sent hime last night. No response from him.
It just seems that a simple vacuum placed on the line would have revealed a leak while the install was happening. I seem to be paying the premium for that not happening.

You cannot use vacuum to leak check. Either use the existing refrigerant pressure in the system and an electronic leak detector, soap bubbles or an ultrasonic leak detector or recover the refrigerant, pressurize the system with nitgrogen and trace refrigerant and use the electronic leak detector or soap bubbles.

The company completely failed. Repairs are on them.

How does the price sound?

It sounds like black magic to me. If he finds the leak easily, he'll charge $1500. If he spends a ton of time on it, expect to be charged more than $1500.

No real way to estimate this, IMHO.

Testing the line set is 101 of an installation. I wouldn't throw a fit about this yet (he may not come back) but when he tries to charge you for new refrigerant, etc - that's when I'd point it out....
