A/C in attached garage

I have an attached 2 car garage that has one door that enters the house, two 2"x6" vents that are up high at the far end near the garage door, the walls are block. I would like to keep my door closed when running the A/C. Are there any A/C options that I can add without cutting an opening into the walls?

I've tried a portable floor standing unit before and it was horribly inefficient. A swamp cooler would have worked better. Open to ideas..

Not all portable ac units are created equal. A "dual hose" unit is much more efficient, it draws the intake air from outside.

Could you run the pipes for a mini split through your vent holes? This would be the most efficient.

minisplit is what I would do in your situation. run the lineset through the existing vent.

A mini-split would be a good choice and like slow stated use the existing vents to run lineset.

But why limit yourself? Knocking a hole in a block wall and fixing it to fit an AC is not that big a deal.

I wasnt aware of these mini-split units, I'll need to look into them.

I'm in an historic district and want to retain the aesthetic and architecture, hence trying to figure out alternatives to a unit hanging off the side.

Thanks for a lead everyone!

I would just put a 240V window/wall unit through a wall. You don’t need a mini split for a 2 car garage. Are all 4 sides of your garage historic and/or visible? I use a Friedrich 18k and it works great in my 23x29 with 6x15 bumpout. I actually have a model with a 12k built in heater that worked well for heat (when run on a thermostat to maintain temperature rather than to quickly bring up the temperature from freezing) before I added a hanging NG shop heater.

Another vote for a minisplit, unless there are restrcitions because of your location being Historic.

There shouldn't be any vents in the garage unless it has a unit that is completely separated from the living space. It's a code violation.

I think the vents the OP mentioned are for outside ventilation for a gas water heater and gasoline fumes from vehicles. They are more common where I now live than where I used to live.
