I'm doing a project with my daughter as a little Christmas present for my wife. She and I made cutting boards and we engraved an image of my wife's, grandmother's, Banana Bread recipe on it. It's a pretty old recipe as it calls for "Spry," which is an old brand of shortening.

We want to make a few loves of the bread to give with the cutting boards (mother-in-law & sister-in-law are getting them too), but I'm not quiet sure what part of it says/means.

Can anyone help me decipher the bit that says talks about sour milk? It says "Alter ____ with sour milk." What does that say?
