A clear Nohr-S floor

Spent two weekends on this since I had to do the garage a half at a time. Figured I'd throw my pictures up, hope it helps someone see what it looks like. I did the diamabrush with the floor maintainer from Home Depot, I rigged up a dust shroud from a cardboard box and went to town. As you can tell, the pattern telegraphs through since the Nohr-S is clear. It's definitely different, I'm still trying to decide if I like it. You can see some of the color differences as I went along, it's definitely darker. I think if I did it again I'd probably go with some kind of color (Legacy mentions going with white and grey to make a light grey) but I didn't want to have a bad color match since I was doing it in halves.

I did it myself and it was definitely a challenge and I have a few roller marks since I couldn't keep a wet edge. I also had some difficulty with the 2 hour recoat window and it was closer to 8-10 hours, but I think it has more to do with our weather. The first side I did when it was in the 50s, and the the other side I did while we had our first frost so it was in the lower 40s during the day. That said, it was a great to be able to apply during this weather instead of having to wait.

I've seen people getting buckets of dust from the grinding process, I probably only got a gallon or two on each side but I could definitely see whatever the builder put on come up. I did have a lot of trouble with the hand held 4.5" diamabrush, it was way more aggressive and put some decent marks in the floor. I wiped down with denatured alcohol twice before putting the coating down since sweeping/leaf blower/shop vac didn't seem to get everything up.

Trying to think here if there's anything else I'd do different. I ended up with some extra product and it's non returnable, so I think I'm going to put a third coat on tomorrow morning and try to use it up. Since I was doing it in halves, I rolled past the joints on the first half and got to have the joy of trying to get rid of it before doing the other side. I spent quite a bit of time with a razor blade getting it up, it laughed at the diamabrush.

That's a very different look to what Legacy posted of another clear Nohr-S application. Hopefully that 3rd coat helps things out, and maybe Scotty will chime in on his thoughts.

Additional coats don't change it much if at all. If you look at the other floor in the application you can see the diamabrush marks too so it's not completely unexpected to me. That other one has a lot more lights so there's more reflections in the pictures. I knew it was going to look like something, so I figured I'd post pictures for anyone else who was thinking of doing it so they could see it before making the decision. It's possible that I could have gone over it a second pass or a different way, but I couldn't really see doubling the time I had already put into it.

I actually put a third coat on the other side this morning since I had a bunch of extra and was still in the recoat window. I'll try to get a picture of it this afternoon, but it's really more of the same.

Again, hindsight being what it is, I don't think the color match would have been a big deal for me. I had two 5 gallon buckets, one with the anti skid added to it, and it would have been just as easy to add the color to the 5 gallon buckets since I used half on one side and half on the other side. The calculations however suggested I'd need two additional gallons so that's where I got worried about the color match but I ended up not needing those gallons at all.

Your floor is well protected. If the pattern does not bother you than leave it alone.

However, this can be corrected. You can do a full broadcast over it or you can add (2) coats of pigmented Nohr-S for a more consistent look.

If you are in the same boat, can't get enough bite on the diamabrush....

Return it and get the little 10" Edco machine.

or...

You can acid stain it...

or...

you can acid etch it.

The barn pic below was an acid etch.1bd6fb32eaf8ce8b72a03a999b1cba4b.jpg

First post...
I have a power troweled basement floor of 350 square feet. It is 12 years old and there are no cracks. I am installing a simple open plan kitchen / living room. I would like a clear glossy covering which i can throw an area rug over.
Would this Nohr-s product be a good option?
How would it hold up to heat from a stove/oven?
If the surface of the concrete is stain free and flat can I get away without the diamabrush?
If I stain the concrete with a color does it impact how the product adheres?
Thanks

Crossgar:
It would be a good option. Couple things...
Acid Stain would be a good way to add a unique color and prep medium.
This product has a good odor, need to have good ventilation during install.

Always check for moisture in a basement setting.
If moisture is present or maybe present, look at our HD6600-MMA or even SEC Sealer (no smell) is a good basement option.

Here is a basement acid stain job with our Xtreme Polyaspartic-80 SC.

Hi Scotty,
That does look very cool. I don't want to go that dark because it is quite dark down there already. Just a hint of green to match my Irish roots. The basement has always been bone dry but I never thought of moisture getting trapped under the surface. Are any of your products semi-permeable? What are the pros and cons of Nohr-s, HD6600-MMA and SEC Sealer? Is there a big difference in cost for my 350 sq ft?
Thanks
James

Hd6600MMA is the breathable in the group with SEC following behind.
NOHR-S is not at all and will trap moisture if it occurs.

For a basement, I like the SEC, no smell during application.
