A Couple of Snap-On Boxes

Found a guy selling a pair of boxes online and was wondering if it was a good deal for them.

He's asking $550 for the pair and a couple of tools on top but they look pretty rough, and considering they are friction slides and have drawer dividers I was thinking of offering a bit less does that seem reasonable?

Those boxes look pretty ruff from here, can't really tell what's on top of them. Based on that I wouldn't pay more than 4 and then only if I needed them.

Unless you really want them I think I would go $300 tops for the pair assuming the metal is good on them
Those are trashed

I'd try $250 first all the way up to $450, no more. They're going to need lots of elbow grease to clean them up.

I'm betting $400 cash would bring them home, $200 each.

If that's just greasy hand marks and dirt on them. Empty them out and take them by a self serve car wash if you have one to soap and pressure wash them off. I used Purple Power and the pressure washer at work on my Waterloo box the day I brought it in. Oiled the slides and it was like new (minus the dents and scratched paint).

it would depend on how wide the boxes are, and what condition the slides are in

2x 26" ? way too high
2x 33" ? slightly high
2x 36" ? slightly closer

but i'd have to want them really bad

Having had old snap on boxes like that, I recommend going and getting a 44 HF.

Too much work for a messed up pair of boxes.

Or do what I did and just buy Listas and Vidmars, put 10-20 hours into each including painting and have a lifetime box

After thinking for a bit that's going to be my plan.

To All: Thanks for the input. I have just decided, everything I own can fit in a single 44" so that'll work fine for me.

I know I am a little late, but you can get casters and sliders from Snapon as they are lifetime warranty. However I would check out the condition of the bottom of the box as they are on that weird cart. Also, the drawers are missing the aluminum handles.

I just finished restoring a box like that, you can check out my thread if you want to see it...

Only the newer KR557's came with the aluminum handles. My KR557/537 that my dad bought new in 1978 do not have the aluminum handles.

The warranty is for the original purchaser. And as old and beat up as those are good luck.

In my mind just because they say snap on doesn't mean they are good. Friction slides, beat to hell etc. I'd rather have just about any modern box over those old out dated boxes.

Yea I'm in OPS area and got a like new kra 5331 for 900..... I wouldn't buy them at all because I think they are going to take a lot of work...... unless you like to do the restoration jobs..... just be patient and a deal will come along...... check Craigslist everyday
