Here's another old craftsman restore but I figured I'd start a thread on it cuz everyone gets different information and another one won hurt anybody. Forgot to take pictures with drawers installed but I realized I needed some as a started cleaning. Here's the before

Ok that explains why I couldn't find anything like it doing some research. craftsman center and mac outer cabinets.

Sounds like an interesting project, although the purist in me almost fainted when I saw a classic gray/red Craftsman modified like that, but to each his/her own :).

Well, that's a cool set up. I love Frankenstein carts. What are your plans?
Right now I'm stripping it to bare metal and repainting. The drawers are in good shape but I guess I'm doing the same because it won't look right with the old red drawers.

The pencil sharpener has been removed lol although the day before I got the chest I did have a dull pencil and was thinking "wish I had a sharpener...but who the hell has a pencil sharpener??"

Kind of bums me out too its modified but I really like the space to store fluids and aerosols

Neat set up! From the stickers and the MSDS label for Methyl Ethel Ketone I'm guessing it was used by an aircraft mechanic? Enjoy the process of getting it looking great again.

This dang tropical storm has ceased on tool box restoration activities!

Where did you manage to find that cabinet?
I'm not really sure, this box was the smaller of 2 Craftsman left to us from my wife's side of the family. Her grandfather's.

Nice.
I recently bought a Craftsman bottom chest similar to that one (it was painted dogshit brown). I almost passed on it since I didn't really need another roller. Once I filled it up with tools, I was very impressed at how smooth the drawers are even with a lot of weight in them. Now, I'm on the lookout for another.

Speaking from experience, that's a LOT of work to get that thing bare and ready, way to stick with it. Looking forward to the results!

Very cool it's a early 1970s 9 drawer. I have a 1965.

Mines in the line up for new paint. Did you find date date above right front wheel. I have a piece of blue tape where to look.

BTW I like some better pics of side cabinets. The left one looks really cool.
