Very nice she likes to spend time out there with you.

I have to go get mine and lead them out to the garage for instructional projects usually of general car maintenance.

Awesome stuff guys!

We have a few guys at work who have NO idea how to use tools. I'm talking about basic stuff. I was helping a guy hang something on the wall and he was surprised that I had screws and sheetrock anchors at the house. Should have seen his eyes when I switched hands and used the screwdriver with my left hand. :lol_hitti His idea of a good weekend was when his kids and wife left town and he could spend the whole time playing video games.
We another guy who asked to borrow a combo wrench but didn't realize that they came in different sizes.
What's the difference between a crescent wrench and a pipe wrench? A LOT!

I don't want my child to be like that. I try to educate these guys and one of them did text me with pictures of his children's play set that he assembled.

Spread the knowledge!

@Outlaw - Awesome bench! I need to improve on my woodworking skills so the next one can be better.

Awesome thread... I really dig the little workbench!

Here is my daughter, at aout 7 months old. Shes 11 months now. I originally handed her a 9/16 wrench ut she was waiving it around a little too much for my comfort.. I gave her the 1/2" pull handle, and that was a little safer since she couldnt really pick it up.

I used to get my daughter in the workshop with me. She'd "build" things and paint things. She liked to work with me. Now she's 33, a successful attorney and is definitely a girly girl. She gives me a daddy-do list once in a while. I'm hoping she and the other daughters find a guy who can fix things. I like to be needed, but also like a little time of my own once in a while.

If I could have those days again when she was 5 or 6.....man, what I'd give to have those days back again!!!

My daughter has been in the shop with me since she was old enough to walk. I used to put a carpet down and let her play with the chrome parts and tools. Her favorite toy when she was 4 was a set of motorcycle carbs, she loved to take them apart and put them together. When she was a teenager the local boys would come over and have her rebuild their carbs on their go carts and 4 wheelers.

Last month she got married and drove my 41 truck from the chapel to the reception.

We are still best friends

Enjoy your daughter, they grow up so fast but never stop being daddys little girl.

Justafurnaceman, thanks for posting this thread. Tugs at my heart remembering when my 22 year old was that age and wanting to help her 'papa' doing whatever. Those moments are most precious and the memories of them is what we happily take to our graves. The trick is to share that same enthusiasm in the things that become important to them; if its something they get jazzed about, then the parents must become jazzed too! It's a way we show our love for our offspring in supporting whatever they show an interest/aptitude.

Yesterday I got home before the family did so I decided to use the wife's space in the attached garage to change the oil in my truck. About 10 min later the wife and daughter pulled up. My daughter immediately goes and changes into some play clothes so that she can help me. Check out her choice of shoes. :headscrat Nothing like showing some style while getting dirty.

We spent the rest of the day together fixing things around the house. I've been slacking on repainting the bathroom so we worked on that.

We spend a lot of time together in the workshop but as usual I forget to bring the camera along to take pictures.

need to convince my wife to let me build a bench for my kids now. I think the oldest (4) would probably be good enough to start handing me tools.

Since I'm now deployed and sitting in Afghanistan I don't have any pictures to update the thread, just a few comments. I bought a pink ratcheting screwdriver after my wife made a comment about needing some tools in the house instead of going out in the garage and hunting through mine. The moment she got the package opened my daughter saw what it was and grabs it running to her room shouting "Daddy got me a screwdriver, it's mine!". I meant for them to share it. I guess I have some more tools to buy for my little one. Probably should start looking for a small toolbox too.

My wife could care less about tools although she used some Snap On and told me that they were a good brand and that I should buy some more. :shocking: OKAY!
