A day at the auction

I went to an auction in the next town over today, they were selling some property belonging to an aquaintance of mine who had fallen on hard times and was losing the property and also his tradctor trailer, as he is an independant driver. His sale was going to be small so the auctioneer got the word out and had a small consignment sale along with it, so there was a little bit of everything but mostly farm equipment, tools, and general misc stuff/junk. I went interested in the pld tractors as that a passion of mine, but didn't have the funds to purchase one today. But I did pick up some bargains on some older automotive tools. The one purchase in particular was the last item or should I say pile of the sale. Over half of a 16 foot utility trailer was covered 2 and 3 layers of Kent Moore essential tool kits for a Cevrolet dealer. I figured out the history of these tools, they origionally went to a dealership in the small town of Protection KS, about 25 miles down the road from where I live. When they closed the dealer in the early '80s an independant shop across the street bought them and set in the atic or back room and forgot them. A lot of the are still in original boxes, some still in original plastic. some of the boxes are water damaged, and some of the tools are rusty, the styrofoam boxes show dusty storage wear, and most of the tools are still shiney new never used. The sets are complete, except maybe 1 or 2 tools missing out of some of them. There were 6 of the syrofoam box kits, 8 or 9 card board kits, 6 random boxes full of random tools, and a Hoppy headlight aligner. Took half of my pickup bed to get it all loaded.

I had to come out to watch the plant to pay back some time to another operator this evening and brought my camera and took pics, only pulled out and photoed half of it, as it was getting kind of overwhelming and I knew I had to load it all back up anyway. The years I saw listed on the boxed kits included 73, 67, 66 (2 different ones for 66), 65,64, and 1959. I saw tools I remembered, some I didn't, differentioal, transmission, carburator, and many other kinds of tools.

Ok, so i know there are 2 questions that are dying to be asked:
1) what it cost me? and
2) what am I going to do with it all?

Well answer to #1 I plead the fifth as if I told you, everybody would be calling the cops to report me stealing tools. As for #2 as soon as I can get time to go through it better I may be listing them in the classified section. Not sure how I will do it yet, leaving the sets as sets, or breaking them up as individuals. I do know i need to go through the random boxes of tools first as the tolls missing from some of the sets may be in them. Let me know what you guys think would be best or you would like to see for you purchasing preference, or if there is someone out there who would like to make an offer on the whole lot That could be arranged, just PM me(just had to ask), buyer responsible for shipping cost or pickup locally.

So here here are the pictures, it may be the weekend before I can really go through it all real good and see what I have, and decide on how to sort it out. If this post is in the wrong place or breaks any rules do what you must.

If this is in the wrong section

Nice haul.

But if that was your friend/acquaintance why did you not buy them before the auction?

+1 on the figuring out what vehicle they go to and what they're used for.

It's gonna be a slim market for finding people who may actually need specialty tools like that, so be aware you may sit on some for awhile and some may never sell. But if you gave next to nothing for them in the first place, give it a go, try to sell, and see what happens.

Yes you are correct on that it being a slim market, but it will not take much recoup my investment and if end up with alot left, they may get repurposed and still find a home in my tool box. I have found over the years that special tools can be used on other makes and models or with slight mods can be made even more useful doing something elese. I wouldn't buy a new special tool to modify it for another purpose but if I have one I have little or nothing in it and not using for what is designed for, then my imagination or necessity at the time is the limit.
