A different attic venting question.

I searched and it seems like most threads cover soffit and ridge vents when talking about this. I though, have two gable vents, on opposing sides of the house. I know about radiated heat being the problem, but access to those sections of the attic that would help with that are inadequate and/or impossible.

I'd like to put an attic fan in.

I think that with the two gable vents, I'd be ok. With two equal sized vents, I don't think I'd be pulling more conditioned air out of the house, than is already escaping through the gaps and cracks.

What does the collective think?

KS and OK
WHERE are you located and your temperature extremes ?? For some locations a couple gable vents are plenty. Other very cold areas have no venting at all.

Update GJ Profile with City / State / Country.

Also, what insulation levels do you have??

Yeah, that'd help...

I'm in Memphis, so high temps don't normally crest 100*, but heat index does, regularly.

The insulation is sparse. In the spots where insulation was installed back in 1951 it's poor. In the areas where access is ok, it is R-13 batting.

I hate to jump on this, but I have the same issue. For me i'm in central Texas and have 2x6 with the blow in insulation. I recently purchased an gable fan on sale from HD (half off) I believe 1600 cfm. The house is about 3800 square feet and is basically an L shape with three gable end vents. I have no soffet vents, but i do have ridge vents.

Should i install the fan or return it, would it help and how much do you think
