Stopped at a yard sale today, which was unusual to begin; Estate sales on a Friday, yes, Yard sales on a work day are rare.
It was a C-List posting that got me there, and most of it was trash (to me...), so I asked what tools they had (It was in the ad...) The retired guy led me into the garage cautioning me he was not selling everything but I could ask about anything. He did have a decent grinder on a good pedestal, for a fair price, but I generally don't use pedestals for bench tools, and definitely not grinders.
He had two inexpensive small bottom rollers and one top, none were even named, and a plastic tub in front of those. I asked if the tools in the tub were for sale, expecting a "yes, but stay out of my tool boxes"
"No, No, No, those are the tools I use for projects, that and the plastic tool box here" (In front of the second roller; an ordinary and cheap box & tray without drawers.)
He starts opening the roller's drawers and says "maybe something in here would be for sale"... and I got the drift and asked if it was OK to look through them and if it was for sale, fine and if not, not a problem.
He gave me the OK and I started digging. Not a lot I was interested in. He was a hobby mechanic (He had 3 shelves about 15 ft long of more, FILLED with motor manuals, and Chilton/Hanes manuals, Only guy I've ever met with more Motors manuals than I have...), and the tool quality generally showed it.
I did find some odd bits, and his prices were eminently fair. Only one thing I asked about was not for sale, a GI tool roller with a full set of matching wrenches, Crescent IR, but a nice set...
Here they are as found, The swivel socket is a Plomb, and I don't often see those chromed; usually that era is industrial finish...
And some details, I really like the little Stanley wood caliper.
I thought at first these were metal workers pliers, but with that "tooth" design, now I'm thinking either upholstery, or leather working.
And last but not least, the jewelers hammer, which has one brass and one leather face, and weighs maybe an ounce in the head. it is next to my jewelers BP, also about 1 oz. It will need a better handle than that nail, but that should be fairly easy to accomplish.
