As an engineer I like to keep myself busy when not at work. This thread will be about my completed projects in the last couple of years but also about future projects including the build of a barn.

Starting of with the conversion of a mini excavator bucket into a riddle bucket.

The old bucket which was well worn.

Making the riddles. Unfortunately I have nothing to bend this bar as a whole. Hence the cuts which were welded up after bending.

The result. Not the best photo but I forgot to take one straight after finishing it.

Last year the little guy had a leaking boom cylinder.

The gland nut was rather tight, so an extension to the C wrench was required.

Cylinder is apart, ready to be stripped.

All seals replaced, ready for installation.

Since July 2019, the excavator has run without issues. Whilst working on our driveway I noticed that the boom ram had develop a new leak. The wiper seal has pushed out. New seals have been ordered and waiting to be installed.

Never heard of a riddle bucket before but GJ and yourself is always full of information. Will stay tuned to see what else you have up your sleeve. I’m guessing you live in the Netherlands or actually in Holland?

Riddle bucket is the name they have given it in England. It is probably called something different in the USA.

Originally I am from The Netherlands but live in the UK. It is the classic story, was offered a job in the UK and then met my girlfriend. 20 years later, I am still here.

As the weather was quite nice today,I decided to give the excavator a 2000 hrs service.

I prefer todo any work on the excavator outside as there tends to be a lot of dirt coming off it. Here is she ready for her service.

On the dozer blade I had noticed that it was impossible to grease the pivot point.
After taking out the grease zerk it became clear that the bush was not properly installed. The hole for the grease was not lined up with the grease zerk. As it was impossible to rotate the bushing I drilled a hole through the bush and now it gets some grease. Still not ideal but in the future I will change the bush.

Here have I just drilled the hole.

She is back in one piece and hopefully good to go for another 2000 hrs.
