A&E Ratcheting Wrench used for?

This is a A&E Ratcheting 1/2-inch wrench on one end and what? on the other.
The only marking is the original 1950 Patent number 2500835.
The other end is rounded with a bevel cut in it that goes about 2/3 of the way through. Not a sharp edge. Any Guesses?
