A fair price?

So after many years to tool collections, I think it's time to sell most and keep what I will need. So what is a fair price, 20, 30, 50% off of retail.

It's hard enough to part with them.

What do you guys think?

Too many factors to just lay out a straight % off. Some items may be worth more than retail, who knows.

Some might not have any use as a tool, but merely as a collectible item.

Agreed. Too many factors. How bad someone wants it.how much it was to begin with. Brand? Snap on- someone may pay 75% and be happy,me it better be 25% or i cant/dont get it. Where Taiwan stuff is mostly and literally only worth scrap weight

I buy and sell a lot of tools. I typically sell for half of retail for tools in very good shape. Complete matching sets are a must to get that much. If they are only in decent or worse shape, you will get less. Oh, these prices are for individual tools or sets, not for complete collections. If you want to sell as one lot, you will get about $.20 on the dollar. Selling tools by the piece or set is a lot of work. Make sure they are all clean and organized. Take good pictures and for the more expensive items, it doesn't hurt to link to the website to verify list price. Snappy will sell best by far.

Yea... best bang for your buck, one by one listings.... but even then, your not guaranteed even 50% off of retail.

10% -50% of suggested retail

all my "good" working tools would probably be on the lower end, 'cuz of hard use, and over finish quality

lower end tools, would probably be closer to the 40-50% price, most of the have seen limited use at home

So where is YOUR website Phil? Oops, sorry, I forgot, you don't have one do you.

I agree, too many variables in pricing. I won't even post something that is not in great shape. And I also sell new tools for 40 to 50 percent off retail. For used tools in excellent shape, . . . it depends. Some I will ask more than full retail because they were better made than today's tools, think Craftsman.

I think fair pricing to go along with everyone else is saying that a common well known brand name should be about 40-50 percent of new that would be your craftsman snap on Mac Matco ect. and if the brand is lesser known I think a fair price would be 25-35 percent of retail such as proto sk Williams cornwell just to name a few.
