I went to look at a tool box I saw on CL today. The tool box was a total mess, the drawers would not slide and tons of rust. I asked the guy if he was selling anything else, he said he had a few old green boxes with sockets. He said he was just going to give them away, shoot me an offer he said. Now the hard part, I don't want to insult him with a really low bid. I said $20.00 for the pair, a deal he said. Below is what I picked up:

Serious suckage -- all the more so 'cause you turned a bust into a boom.

As soon as I saw those boxes I was already jealous.

Nicely done!

I am putting together a small mobile tool box and these will be added to that, now if could find one in metric? Maybe I will take the small box and replace the sockets with metric.

Maybe you should sell them to a collector and buy something else to use in your mobile tool box.

For me its not because its a collectors value its more because 20$ for both box is an awsome deal for the quality and all the nice socket and the ratchet seems in great shape nice little box to keep in the truck!

They are not valuable collectors items but they are SK socket sets. They are probably 20-30 years old and come with a lifetime guarantee. They were/are made in the US and are actually very good tools. I have a set very similar to these that are still used and still in good shape after 30 years.

Note: I think that the larger box is the same size as mine. If positioned correctly you can hold a complete set of shallow 3/8 drive SAE sockets (on a rail) and a set of deep 3/8 drive SAE sockets (also on a rail). There are more sockets in the metric set so you will need more space to keep the shallow and deep sockets.

..oh, and Slip Kid....

...I'll pay you twice what you paid for them. Lets see that would be $40.00???

You got a good deal.

I could sell them and get a Cman multi piece set, it would just not be the same as these old vintage tools. I like the look and feel of these old sets in metal boxes. Below is a 3/8" drive Blackhawk set and a 1/2" drive Challenger set.

Slip Kid, Great find on those old tools, anything old and in good shape is a great find to me! I was once told though when someone asks you "Make me an offer"you should decline and let them set a price first. Then you can bargain down. But your offer was taken and good for you!

Don't get me wrong I don't think you got ripped off and I'd rather use old SK than new craftsman myself. I just thought you had to "steal" something to get a you ****. I figured they must be collectible 'cos they ain't worth way more than $20 as used tools IMO.

As a set of used tools they might only be worth $20.00, but the metal case and the condition of the tools brings up there value a bunch. I intend to keep these in a mobile tool box and use them, resale price was not a factor in buying these.

For reference....

A couple months ago I bought a SK set off of the 'bay. It had shallow and deep, SAE and metric sockets, a ratchet and a couple of extensions in a blow molded case for a little over a $100.00. The same set retails for quite a bit more.

I'd say he got a good deal.

Slip Kid: Well Done. It's good to see some S-K photos, and kudos from satisfied users.
